I think this whole scenerio has more to it than we are reading here.
I worked for Werner for 5 years. I guess you could call Omaha my home terminal at that time. This stop sign in question baffles me. When you get off of the interstate there are stop lights at each intersection. Could be stop signs down the frontage road in front of the terminal, however that is not the truck route into the terminal. There is a stop sign at each guard shack, one before you go into the safety lane and one before you go into the trailer lot. Blowing one of these would get you reported! From what I remember of the employee hand book directions are given to each terminal. He may have not known where he was going, but I went to several terminals in 5 years and didn't know where they were either but did that little thing called trip planning. No gps just a map!
It appears Jr. has tested out and got his truck in Georgia yet they are sending him to Omaha on the guise of truck maintenance? HMMMM that one smells too. They don't just route you to a terminal especially after just sending you out in a truck. Ah just coming in off of a 10 hour drive not sure what that has to do with anything. Sounds like trucking to me. Did he get his 10 hour break before reporting to safety? The big question is why would they give him a road test when he has already tested out to be assigned his own truck.
One of two things has happened here. Your son did something that made safety uneasy and they had him routed to a terminal, or , he has made up a wingdinger of a story cause he isn't cut out to be an OTR driver. It isn't all "see the country and meet new people". You find yourself moving when the loads are there, sleeping when you can, eating a lot of peanut butter sandwiches, and sleeping in less than desireable places with no facilities. That is the nature of the beast with the big carriers.
Do I think Werner is a great company and it was all sunshine and lollipops when I worked there? HEll no!! It wasnt that bad either. I learned a lot about myself while OTR and doing a dedicated account with them. At least your son got bus fare home.
I hope his interviews go well, however if his "story" doesn't wash with prospective new jobs I guess we will then hear how bad they are as well.
Good luck and y'all be carefull out there!
Werner worst company ever

Supposedly he is going to be a NAME not a marked # over at KNIGHT
, or so its posted on the other thread .

After he got a few things fixed in Allentown ( it took a week of only detention pay ) He got a few loads and was headed with a load from Ohio to Grand Isle Ne. Was told to fuel at Omaha and his truck needed a level one ?inspection after fueling. After the incident they said he could come back in 6 months but would need more training(translation they will pay him slave wages again for as long as they can stretch it out) So I guess they want him as long as they can get him to team drive with a trainer for next to nothing .
-
Could we stop using the term slave wages? I think it tkaes away from the validity of your arguemet. Plus you can't expect a company to pay someone in a training program the same as someone that is running on their own. The level of supervision required is different. But back to my point, slave wages...... really, I mean really, they should have sold him instead of firing him

Now its "After he got a few things fixed in Allentown ( it took a week of only detention pay ) He got a few loads" followed by " When the pos truck they assigned him went into the shop for repair they put him in the hotel. "Last edited by a moderator: Apr 17, 2011

Nice comparison....The fact is that the son is probably lying to dear old dad about the situation and was probably fired for something way worse than some security guard saying he ran a stop sign.
The main mistake made here was going to a ####### carrier like Werner in the first place...
But these two idiots haven't learned anything from the process because now they have decided that Knight or some other "bottom feeder carrier" looks better in spite of the fact that there are thousands of horror stories about them as well.
Which brings up another observation...Is the son 4 years old?
Why is dear old dad involved in any of this?
No internet on the road? Sorry daddy but "That dog don't hunt" There are lots of options for internet on the road.
Do yourself a favor...Tell junior to cut the apron strings and grow a pair and start making grown up decisions without your input because your input isn't helping.
The kid more than likely isn't cut out to do this kind of work and can't figure out how to admit it to dear old dad yet! -
He finally got home Friday and I just found out today that the trainer passed him, but after saftey reviewed data from the onboard computer,it read out that he braked too hard . He shouldn't have let the tester BS him and talk to him like they were long lost friends. That led to his hard braking, so an onboard computer monitoring his driving failed him. How do you like that? A machine failed him! Whatever, he's applying at the local lumber yard that laid him off when things got slow last year and he is taking the advise you guys gave and will only consider Knight or Jasmin as a last resort. And as a Pm suggested will also talk to WS at their sayerville office. Thanks to you all!

It is kinda odd that they would tell him to fuel at the terminal. I am suprised that his fleet manager would go along with this. The level 1 inspection doesn't fly either. That was probably the result of going through the safety lane before fueling and they red tagged the truck.
Dad you can defend your son all you want, however I don't think you are getting the whole story. I also don't really think that driving a truck or at least OTR is a good idea for your son. You have to be able to think and make decisions on your own to make the best of situations you are put in and from what I have read that isn't happening.
Time for your son to step back and regroup. Like I said earlier if his story doesn't fly with his next prospective employer, he won't be hired. If he tells them the tales he is telling you they will find out sooner or later.
Good luck. -
"How do you like that? A machine failed him!"
No, a machine recorded his failure - BIG difference. These "machines" have been monitoring trucks for years, they're the standard in the industry, and drivers have been operated successfully for millions of miles with them for at leats 20 years, that I know of.
We all want to believe that our children are perfect, and anyone who contradicts that must be in a conspiracy against them.. but then we open our eyes and realize that our children make mistakes, too. He made some mistakes..but the WORST thing you can do for him is keep holding his hand and making excuses, thereby negating the real opportunity for him to man up, own up, and press on... like men and women have had to do forever in the process of growing up. -
As we join the BIG BLUE SCREWS YOU , will Jr have another version of what might have caused his HASTY departure , will Dad have a reason why Jr was railroaded.
This story does not add up , more twists & turns but then an answer for everything just like a cancelled soap opera.
