I feel sick to my stomach reading some of these posts. I sincerely hope and pray all of those drivers that were 'shafted' and mistreated by Westside are on your way to doing better. I hope Westside is pressured to folding in this economy...

Personally i would not drive 3 months for a company if i was not making 3000 amonth or better, and got another truck,or cleaned it out.I would get labor relations involved in this problem with WS...CYA

I drove for West Side for ten years. I can't say it was all rainbows n butterflies but for the most part it was a good experience. The pay was good, except for back in '02 when they started this average mileage crap (lower weekly avg= lower cpm next month) which thank god they don't do anymore. The benefits were good too, when I left I had 3 weeks paid vacation. Most of the office people were easy to get along with. There were a few things I didn't like about it, but not enough to make me quit in disgust.

I'm glad I didn't go to work for them. Their safety director is suck a a---hole its a miracle he can even count. All I was questioned about was all the bad stuff on my DAC report and he said I lied about dates of employment for one company. I guess if he looked at the next job I worked at there was a problem with the dates one company fired me on 06/05 when I started for the next company on 03/05 and even got into an backing accident in that same month plus I have a receipt from the V.P. from the other company inwhich I gave my fuel card and Id cards. The guy was real nasty to me and treated me like dirt. I won't work for them if they paid me $10 a mile. If they can not respect new prospects I wonder how they treat thieir employees. Probably like dogs.

Man thats a darn shame i've been saying all along us drivers need to stick together and form some kind of union or something to protect us drivers from these companies.

Well I am currently driving for West Side and I can tell you I will be changing jobs within the next few weeks. Things have just gone downhill especially after the sliding pay scale was introduced, based on your previous month's miles. So if you have a few bad weeks, then the next month, your pay per mile drops. Lately what's been happening to me and a LOT of their drivers is that we are getting short runs...250-400 miles and cannot drop them at a yard nor deliver early. And lot of times you'll get 24-30 hours to get these short mileage loads there. That's pretty bad if you're a regional driver, but it's even worse when it's happening to the OTR drivers including myself. Plus communication has become a real issue, you ask legitimate work related questions and dispatch will not reply, ask an hour later, and you're still ignored. Unfortunately the load I got for this weekend was the final straw... a load out of Lima, Ohio to Melrose Park, IL. That's only 240 miles and I arrived in Lima saturday morning and didn't get loaded till 3pm Sunday afternoon... there's just no way a driver can live on mileage like that. I was preplanned on it Friday afternoon coming out of PA and when asked if this was all they had or is there anything else, as usual, my messages were ignored. The miles alone are enough to make me quit but the refusal to communicate is just inexcusable.

i worked for westside for 3yrs.i was in the same boat as u.i was on home time when i got sick and didnt feel good at all.i phoned in that morning and told my dispatcher this.he insisted i pick up the load.i refused and they fired me.came and picked up the truck and kept my pay.charged me 600 for the truck.i went to the doctor the same day i called in and was rushed to the hospital where i underwent heart surgery and they placed 4 stents in my heart.this made no difference to them.they could care less.i missed the load.thats all they cared about.and later, like u i found out they cancelled my health ins the same day.i was on the hook for 8 grand for the docs and hosp bill.so stay away from westside!!!
