The misses and I, along with our dogs, are driving to Tucson in a couple of weeks. We will taking I20 through Abilene, Midland/Odessa etc. So my question is while in that area what companies should I look at regarding the oil business, taking into account that I have no oilfield experience, but 7 years of reefer/gas hauling and a clean record. This old boy needs a change, and my home state of Virginia isn't doing it.

Have you and your wife ever been to west Tx? If you want to see any trees, you need to bring them with you.

I'd be open to most things as long I'm home every night and the pay is decent. Looked into crude hauling on this site, but with crude hauling remaking itself and man camps, there is a lot to be desired. Hell the last time I slept with a bunch of guys around was boot camp, and that was then.

    207nomad Thanks this.

Please elaborate on what you mean by "crude hauling remaking itself"

Simply put, restructuring pay for drivers based on supply and demand and crude oil futures. Not to mention the consolidation or buyouts of smaller companies that didn't weather the last "bust" to well. I'm sure this will work itself out over time. Personally, I haven't worked the "fields" , but I have followed crude fluctuations and the meddling of opec.

I'm in South Texas, plenty of companies hiring here. Crude haulers running legal do 200-350 day depending on company.
I stay in a RV park 20 miles from truck and pay 275 plus electric

Looks like I won't be driving out after all. Instead I'm flying out to DFW on Sunday for an interview / physical and roadtest next week for a company outside of Odessa.
