Bryan, it's probably too late but Western is not a good company. I've been with them for 1.5 yrs and it's been very trying. The only reason I'm here is that I was laid off from a far better company and they were the only ones hiring near where I live. Can't sell house and move as there is no market for them. At Western you are either a flatbed or van driver. Cannot do both. Living in the northeast with the van division is an understatement. Flatbeds go there too but not nearly as much. When I hired on it was suppose to be 1wk out and home for 34hrs. That never happened. Then it was 2wks out and 48hr home. That was a few times. Now the norm is 3-4 wks out and if you are lucky you might get 48hrs home time. Their equipment is garbage. They don't maintain them well except for oil and lube jobs. Forget getting anything fixed properly. A/C good luck on that. I've got 31yrs in and these are the rudest people. They always try to talk down to drivers and think we a all dirtbags. Yes, Western has alot of them too! They preach safety and HOS but that's only window dressing. You need to run hard and fast(mine only does 64.5mph) and make everything look right. Mainly fuel stops. Don't bother with the Q-Com. When going to Maine, have you crap together because you will be stopped. Any violations are on you. Even equipment. Western will turn their back on you in a minute. Did they tell you about the pay cuts we got (2), no idleling, all trucks by brand are keyed alike; so expect to have something stolen by one of the dirtbags here. And never refuse a load for any reason, otherwise you will sit and be treated as a Leper. Oh, did they mention forced dispatch. Not to me either. Kind of rymes with HOSTILE WORKPLACE. The word amongst most the drivers here is that if the economy was better or when it improves Western will not have any drivers. Oh,if it sounds like I'm bitter... yes. After running 36 hrs straight, including drops, fueling, and sitting on a closed interstate for 3 hrs, 1335 miles later I begged off a 600 mile overnight load because I was wore out and now I sit with only short runs and sit somemore. I guess I'm a leper now. Good luck with whomever you finally choose.![]()

Marmaduke,
Stick around, share some stories !! This is a good place for drivers to chat about stuff. Hope to see you posting !! -
I don't either
-
Stupid question is why aren't the authorities watching these threads?
Thanks Marmaduke. -
They are . They can't act on anything from forums though . How do you separate the facts from the BS ? The links to report carrier violations have been posted several times .
As far as Western Express goes their trucks have the word INSPECT show up in red letters on the prepass screen . I saw that myself a couple of weeks ago . -
Hey everybody! Sorry I haven't posted in a while but Western has me running very hard. So far, for the most part my experience has been good. I stay busy and pretty much stay in the southeast region. If I go west or northeast, I usually get a run coming back south. There is a lot of truth to some of what has been said. You do end up staying out for a while. I stayed out about 5 weeks. I am not complaining because I like traveling the country. I have no wife or kids so I am not really pressing the issue. I am broke down at the moment, the back drive axle went out. I think the internationals that they have are much better than the freightliners they have in the flatbed division. If someone chooses this company, flatbed is the way to go. They seem to be more flatbed oriented. The only problems I really have with them is that at times dispatch doesn't know what's going on. They can be disorganized at times. My miles fluctuate between 2500 and 3200 each week. I do admit, it gets difficult to run legal with them quite often but all and all, I can't complain

Bryan glad to see you are trucking. I was wondering about you! Got my 670 Volvo out in front of the house.
Try to run legal if you get caught fudging the logs.........you driving career will be over. Not worth it IMO.jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -
i try so hard to. you are right about that. i hate that they have give such a small window of opportunity to make deliveries. i typically run at night so that i can make better time on the road. i appreciate the advice rug trucker!

I heard Swift is looking for flat bed guys. You won't be asked to run illegal there.
-
is that right? i wonder how their pay scale is? I actually like flatbeddin a whole lot, truth be told i care more about getting the miles. i may have to look into them
