Is there a question to this post ?Lonesome Thanks this.

What do you mean?

Hi Rubicon. Thanks for the post. I've thought about starting out with Western Express but I might go Schneider. If I did Western I'd go van out of Fontana but I've read so many dodgy things about this company.. like one driver who had not been paid for 3 weeks until he decided to leave and turn in the truck. Other times I hear they make you sit a lot and $600 a week sounds pretty low so I can't imagine how much a Western driver makes sitting. I hear the dispatchers leave you alone for the most part though.
Big John 37 Thanks this. -
I had no flatbed freight in Arizona not long ago. I went to a private drop yard and a bunch of guys were turning in their flatbed trailers for dry vans. They had me doing drop and hooks on the West coast which was quite nice. Someone said one could ask not to just be running just one side of the county, I don't know; but I will find out on Monday when I go get a dry van truck. Most of my van runs on the West were 1000 mile drop and hooks for Wal-Mart, Lowe's, others. Some guys sat it seemed, but others were 3000 plus. If I don't get the miles, I'll grab a trainee and not hope to team for 6000 miles but spend time with him or her backing for hours or whatever they need. Maybe 4000 miles and help them learn. A friend of mine who knows nothing about logs, pulls over in the wind, gets lost, takes 20 minutes to back and an hour to move the tandems and is quite new made 600 dry van East Coast after taxes with 1800 miles.
It seems to me Schneider is solid though. See their freight on trains. They have a lot of options and ways to make good money. Don't know if any of that helps. Nice too hear from you.Prof.Gringo, Ooops and Rocknroller4 Thank this. -
If I were one of your trainees, I would have PLENTY of notebook paper, along with a voice or tape recorder, to jot down and record EVERYTHING you were teaching me.
If, by the GRACE OF GOD, I am able to get into trucking, I HOPE to have a good trainer that is willing to teach me. I am MORE THAN WILLING to learn and listen.
Currently, as it stands, I cannot pass a D.O.T. physical. I am working very hard to change that.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!Veryblessed Thanks this. -
Hope you pass your physical soon. A good trainer makes a lot of difference of course. You will probably learn a lot also from watching and listening to people with much more experience than me. I have 20 months and have seen what I thought were difficult situations, then along comes someone who makes it look so easy on the first shot. Goes to show.Veryblessed, LoudOne and MidwestResident Thank this. -
Appreciate that post there! I might just do a refresher (about 450 bucks) and go with Schneider since I want to learn to drive safe and all.Marvel Chambers Thanks this.

I've never been shorted pay in 12 months with them meaning trip sheets. Layover pay has to be asked for, but I don't because they pulled me out of a ditch I slid in to and they didn't say a word about $326. and whatever else may inevitably happen. Payroll ladies are sharp. If the driver doesn't get paid for the trip then something was wrong with trip sheet or scanning bills and they didn't get paid either. And one phone call would get it fixed quick. I'm not trying to recruit or sing hymns, but people generally make ok money here. I sat twice in Arizona in my time here in winters. The 2nd time they hooked me up to van trailers and ran me even better with the flatbed tractor. It's not going to be 2800 2900 3100 2700 every single month or week. But much more often for someone who starts when the 10 is up and is respectful on the qualcomm or quiet.Rocknroller4 and Ooops Thank this.

Cool stuff Rubicon. What are they trailers like? Did they ever push you to run illegally? I just want a good company to do my year.
