How would they be for someone with just under six monts of experience, (5 1/2)? I was at CRE and they just fired me for trying to find out if i needed to break fed. HOS rule or local law. I was in Oakland, CA and ran out of hrs stuck in traffic, so i pulled over on a big open space on an offramp until i could find out what i needed to do. Once i was told to break HOS to find a parking spot, i did. Other than that ive had a perfect safety and service record. Id really like to do something in the Southeast, preferably flatbed. TIA

I can't say with complete certainty how they would handle the being terminated from the last employer. I do know that the reason why you were fired would not matter to them. Tons of guys have and get hos violations here. If your psp is clear, you have good chances in my view. They have freight in the southeast-maybe not enough to be exclusively there all the time though. Hope this helps.

It was totally bs why they fired me, probably because i told them i wouldnt be a trainer and just used that as an excuse. My old dm was very upset on what they did. Other than the pulling over on an offramp to find out what to do my safety record is perfect. Thanks for the reply.

That's where ownership of a mistake to the driver comes in. Your mistake being that you weren't watching what time you had left. Stuck in traffic but running out of hours? Not much you can do except find next available parking spot, but part of driving is forward preparation.

Could you tell me if Western lets you idle all night to stay cool? What is their idle policy? Thanks, man.

Of course they don't like guys to idle if it's under a certain temperature in the summer or over a certain temperature in the winter. I have seen guys idle all night long and no one says a word to them. The trucks are equipped with Detroit Diesel and idle management. So, if it is not hot outside you will have to start you truck every 5 minutes to keep it idling. If it is hot outside then you can set your struck to start itself and idle automatically if it goes above a certain temp. Where Western has that temp set at as a minimum I don't know. I never use it. I start the truck 2 or 3 times in a night and gets it cool enough until like 1am I'll put the Windows down. If I were in Phoenix I'd run the idle management and it would keep me freezing I'm sure.

Buy a 12v fan and crack the windows. Unless it's 100 degrees you don't need to idle to cool down. You get the truck cool first. Then close all your curtains. Little 12v fan once temp is down is more than sufficient until your over 100

Thanks for responding Rubicon and LoudOne. Are you guys pretty happy at Western? Would you recommend anyone joining them?

I'm not with with them. I looked into them and what they offered didn't suit me. But they looked like a reasonable company compared to others.
