I'm sure they will still take you. They don't like to have any open trucks. With the economy being slow plus being short on freight, things may be a litter slower than normal. Your equipment there is very good.

I haven't been here long, but from my point of view I would rather be here as well as anywhere. They DO give raises, and they are extremely supportive of the recruits they bring in. This is the old type company, where you can actually visit with Dispatch, and office personnel, and I definitely give them A 8 on a score of one to ten.
Yes, they will train you on a flatbed, and they have three routes set up so that everyone can get home on a regular basis, if not weekly. There is the East Coast run, Fla to Me, then the southeast circle, and also in the upper midwest, and west.
The man who made all this happen came from Averitt Express, and recognised the need to get drivers home, instead of keeping them out. The routing was his design and seems to work.
I haven't been here long, but everyone has been really nice, and you can approach anyone in the office with a question.
I could have gone to Henderson, but they called too late, and to be honest, I try to keep as open a mind as I can, as I tryt to tell people in here. Someone elses loss can be someone else's gain, and as far as I am concerned I don't ump companies, especially when I find I am treated right. Yeah, .30/mi sucks, but it is better then England, Swift et AL, and a lot nicer. You won't won't find fancy here, but you will find a good work environment. I have only heard one driver bellyaching, about miles, but what to expect these days??
Everyone from the shop to the office to the drivers seems to be happy here, and they only keep the trucks for 2 years. Pets are not allowed (unfortunately for me). Not even w/deposit. I guess some people had cats that tore up the seats in a couple of the trucks, and due to their stupidity the rest of the Drivers have to get punished too.
Well, Time to go. Take care and I will post when I can.
simpsonized and skullitor Thank this. -
i appericate all the info,do you know anything about the brimingham loc..
will they let you run alot out west if you request?
do they run detriot mi? -
They lay off experienced drivers to make room for the newbies who will do the same job only cheaper. Western Express isn't the only company that's doing this. Many companies industry wide are doing the same thing.
Why pay an experienced driver .36 to .46 cpm when you get a greenhorn to do the same thing for .30 cpm.
Answer your question? -
NSTAR92, please pm me. I can't pm you yet, I don't have enough posts to qualify for pm's. makes no sense, but it is what it is.

First of all I am sitting in the yard. They have let only a few go, and are trying to retain ALL the drivers. There is presently a .01 pay cut per mi on ALL drivers, and also paycuts in the office and shop. I have not heard of layoffs. SMX has not yet been cut down, and all the yards and contracts are still intact. They do have a hiring freeze on Van Drivers, and are only taking those with 6 months OTR experience for flatbeds, but they will train if you want to go for a flatbed.
So far there is a lot of griping. But when the owner/pres takes a 50% pay cut himself, how can everyone else talk???? This is what I know as fact, I have been in the office for the last 3 days they have been discussing it.
Say what you will but I would rather lose .01 pm than my job as a layoff. I know they are still getting applicants fpr the Van division and will be willing to replace anyone that feels they can do beter elsewhere. My advice, if you have a job, keep it. Right now a shady DAC won't help anyone, and if you think that leaving a company in the bad times will look good for you right now, you may be sorely mistaken. There is always someone waiting to warm the seat.
This cut is supposed to be temporary, but we shall see!skullitor Thanks this. -
I know I see a lot of Western Express rigs at Flynn's truckstop in Shrewsbury,Mass. i see Volvo VNL-670's and Freightliner Columbia's.
-
would they be worth goin and gettin some updated recent flatbed otr exp???
-
Yes Western does run alot of Northeast runs. And they are still hiring. Limited but hiring.
-
They do run out west if you are willing to run flatbed. And they do not ( very limited) go into Detroit Michigan. if you live out of that area you will only be able to go flatbed and you will be out 3-4 weeks at a time. I know I do recruiting for theme. have been with theme for 4 years.
