I had the whole head unit in the DEF tank and the DEF pump replaced. Both were still under warranty at the time. The head unit had an external coolant leak and DEF pump quit.
I know there is a service bulletin for trucks that build up crystalized DEF at the doser to add an apron. -
I'm having cold outside air blowing through the driver side door here of late. The air seems to be getting inside the door and blowing up along the inside of the window? Which of course makes the drivers side window ice up. And gives me a cold arm.
I did find two small holes on the bottom of the door that have no weatherstripping over them. It looks like it was made that way for some reason. But it seems to allow outside air in. I taped them shut, and it helped a little, but I still get a cold arm.
Any suggestions? It's a '13 4900ex. -
I got the same issue in my truck. I bought a lined hoody in Alaska. That helps keep my arm and neck warm in really cold conditions. The heat system in those trucks absolutely sucks.
The holes on the bottom could be drains for the door to let water out. With them taped shut you start collecting water inside the door and start creating rust. -
And the coolant leaks continue. On the last trip home I found another coolant leak on the truck. The pipe that runs along the valve cover between the overflow tank and water pump cracked. It has three different tabs welded on to it for mounting and it cracked on one of them.
I figured out the DTNA online stuff and have now access to parts diagrams. I ordered a replacement and paid for overnight and Saturday delivery, only to release Friday night that I ordered the wrong one. I ended up welding up the old one and it is working fine for now.
The radiator fan is staying on all the time and I will have to figure out what is causing that. I can't idle at night, not that I want to anyway, since the engine has no way to stay warm even with the winterfront.
The APU is doing a great job keeping the engine warm when running all night and having the block and oil pan heater plugged in. I tested it for sure Wednesday night when the temperature dropped down to minus 31 degrees Fahrenheit in Destruction Bay. The truck fired right up in the morning. I did have a bit of a sick feeling before I tried it since it was only to be about minus 20. -
Maybe you guys can help me figure out what this noise is. Takes a fairly good wind to get it going. I have taped off almost everything possible, still does it. Bout ready to get rid of it, very irritated right now.

Sounds and looks like the bolts holding the dash are loose. If I remember right, the bolt heads are under the hood on the firewall. On mine there's also a bunch of screws right below the windshield that tend to work loose over time. I tighten them about every six months.

Hard to tell in the video, it does sound like the dash.....but have you had the windshield replaced?
I had mine done and had to go back to get it re-silicone. There was a spot where the rubber surround was loose or not sealed and in the wind or at speed it sounded like a little clown horn going off in the cab. -
Problem I have now is my clutch pedal is chattering enough to drive you nuts. It is quiet if you keep your foot on it, but that's not ideal.
I adjusted clutch and even tightened the spring on the linage under the truck, but it seems like the rattle is right in the pedal pivot. And I see no way to remedy it.free2fly973 Thanks this. -
Yesterday I taped off the windshield, removed the top cowl piece, taped off the mirror brackets where they mount to the cab. Taped the seam from the cab to the side cowl. Tightened all the the bolts for mirrors and visor. Spent the entire afternoon and put on 130 miles trying to figure this out. I'm stumped. And the dash is tight, shot that video while driving and my phone was shaking.
@Star4900 Martin had that issue with his 09, I'll give him a call later to see what he ended up doing to resolve that clutch pedal issue.Star4900 Thanks this.
