Daimler was the death of Western Star.

Wanted to build my big bunk on an original Star, but Daimler killed that idea long ago when they bought them.

Considered the 5700, but they quit producing those, too, to consolidate production lines. Turned into just another Cascadia for more.

Still wound up with a Daimler, but no different than the same production line produced, different badged plastic stuff they put out. But, without the additional price for the badge.

Western Stars are just as common as everything else on the road out here. Back in the day they were a tough truck.

    That, they were.

Common, yes. But no longer Western Stars. Only in name & badge.

    Sad, sad, sad......

Well, I'll tell ya'( pulling suspenders), I can't say about newer ones, but my 1st truck was a '82 WS 4964, IDK, 210 WB(?) and was mostly a White product. It, and Autocar were basically a White Road Boss, and great trucks. White sold WS in '81 to 2 firms and moved production to Utah. '82-'91 is kind of a gray area for WS, and remained unchanged until Daimler bought them in 2000. Far as common,,not in the Midwest. Fact is, when I bought mine in 1988, I never even heard of the make. There was a fellow from Green Bay had an older one, but I never saw any others. It was a good truck, made money with it, originally had the White "Reyco" spring rear, that I had cut off behind the sleeper, and grafted a Pete Air Leaf stub, with remarkable results. It had a 350 BC, 10 speed, and I loved that truck. Drove it for several years, wasn't repair free, but never let me down, in Chicago traffic too. Pulled some ball busters with that truck, that load of junk engine blocks, and beer loads, always heavy. Anything on TV from Canada, hey, shows nothing but WSs. IMG_0125.JPG

To the untrained eye, they’re a Cascadia twin anymore.
