I haven't noticed it getting warm. I almost never transmit on it. When I bought this in '06, I didn't find the negative posts online about RAR's work like I find now. Everyone on CBRT bragged up Mike's work and claimed he was such a great guy. I learned one thing. If you see nothing but positive remarks and the person is a sponsor on the forum that is a red flag.
I didn't like the way he sounded on the phone and almost went somewhere else. I really ticked him off once. He offered a discount to forum members on a Connex for some reason and I posted that I wondered if I could get that since I just spent $700 with him. He got so ticked that he gave the radio away a forum member on the grounds that the guy wanted a new radio and couldn't afford one and he didn't like a comment about how he did business. Everyone thought he was so great for that, helping out a guy. That is one way he gets his good comments, by giving away free mics, antennas, whatever to his buddies on the forum.
I wouldn't LOL at anyone that buys a radio from a recommended shop and gets a hacked radio. Any negative comments on that forum would be quickly deleted. And BTW, I know some people here are members there. -
I stand behing Custom CB. Doug the owner worked for sparkys and ventured out alone. The reason I go to him is because he puts out videos on youtube of his radios, mods and reviews of new stuff out. He is very trust worthy.

Sparky's had a tech until just a couple of months ago who has since left. I don't know if it's this same fellow.
Sparky's had been selling a bunch of Alpha 10 radios, including the Mini 500s. Before they'd ship them out, the shop would, by default, do a limiter clip mod and put on their company warranty seal. An unfortunate effect is that said "mod" destroyed the FM functionality.
A bunch of ham/CB chums had ordered them and they all arrived with this "mod". When we contacted the shop about it, Al said they'd just had a tech leave who had been doing it on his own. This was around December. Unfortunately, we got a few more (when they closed them out) and all had had this done, too.
I see Custom CB sells these radios currently, and he advertises them as having "35 Watts of AM swing!!" The radio is rated at 10 watts AM & FM.
I haven't dealt with Custom CB myself. Frankly, I was a bit put off when I had to click on an amateurish "hold harmless clause" page before I could enter his site just now. I'd never even heard of the place until I saw mention made of them here.
How long have they been around? I couldn't find anything like an "About Us" page on their site.

I wonder if it's a ploy to get around FCC rules

I see Custom CB is selling those cool Texas Star "CW transmitters" too LOL
He is selling those illegal, banned "10 meter" radios that hams dont use too LOL -
It's me,the OP. It's still confusing. I bought a Galaxy 95T2 from RAR based on glowing reviews on CBRT. Then I read Mike hacks radios and does the kind of stuff he says doesn't do (hacks) and does things like volting the finals with his mods and it may be hard to undo his work. But, other shops get varying reviews. I see Sparky's gets good reviews, then I see there are complaints because some one besides AL worked on it. I see where a tech (Doug) left Sparky's and is on his own. Then, I see where people have issues with his types of mods.
I'm wishing that I would left it stock or just had it tuned up instead of letting some one do who knows what to my radio. 95T2s were good radios. The only thing is it doesn't have an external echo adjustment. BTW way just what is done when Al Sparkifys a radio if anybody knows. -
Looks to me that it's a fancy buy at your own risk
