Been involved in driver hiring since 1977 until retirement in 2021.
Every four years the economy seems to hold it's breath as the campaign of mud flies over the airwaves.
Ridgeline nailed it; most people are not willing to take a chance on a new driver when they have their choice of an overflow of 'proven' experienced drivers.
The simple fact remains that any driver, at any level of experience, is most likely to have an accident within the first year of working for a carrier.
That's a chestnut from the DOT in the 60's and is still somewhat true today.
The CDL schools won't stop their gig but one cannot fault the fact that a million mile safe driver may STILL have an accident, but the more experienced driver CAN and usually WILL attempt to mitigate the severity based on past experience and ability.
The real problem is this drought started earlier than more 'normal' elections and has the potential to drag on even longer depending on the outcome.
