I see trucks here and there with extra long frames, often Peterbilt cowboy cabs, where the tractor tandems are set further back than most.
Is this to increase trailer maneuverability? Decrease risk of jack knife? To ancc more trailer types? All of the above? Other?
Is it from the manufacturer? Aftermarket?
What’s Up With Extended Frames?

A small percentage of them haul over length beams that overhang very far over the front. Most are just like everybody else said, over compensating.

It's the same kind of dudes who drive pimped up lifted pickup trucks, they like to impress each other

Before air ride cabs, suspension and seats, trucks had springs, torsion bars and etc. They rode just as one might imagine, but usually a little worse. Not like the trucks today that enjoy more than half a century of technology.
Guys wanted as long of a wheel base as they could get, trying to improve the ride. This was when fuel was cheap and aerodynamics had not yet been invented.
Now the plan is to have as little gap between the tractor and trailer as possible, as air will only go straight for about a foot and a half before it will turn in and cause a tornado in that gap.
So now, some may still remember the look and like it.
Not sure why others get their panties in a wad because someone else has something they like. I have a lot of things I like and I don’t buy them for others.
Full disclosure also, I have never driven one with a long wheel base. But, it kind of does have that look of being cool.
Good for them. They probably can afford the truck and the fuel, unlike some that complain.FerrissWheel, abyliks, JolliRoger and 6 others Thank this. -

Looks, and not hauling cheap freight. It’s an image and life style-not just a job.
