I have been driving since 2016. My first truck was a 2007 379 with a C-13 and ten speed. She had a lot of miles and likely wasn’t running in top shape. I had quite a few minor break downs and was always fixing little things. The truck had no power and driving it was just exhausting slowing to a crawl on hills, not being able to pass anyone, etc.
Back in April I traded it in and bought a 2015 Mack with a 505HP MP8 and an 18spd. It is such a joy to drive. Plenty of power, plenty of gears. It is so nice just splitting between 17th & 18th on hills and the more modern features like being able to just set the cruise to a digital MPH is great. The AC went from being marginal in the Pete to turn it down it is too cold. Life is good.
What a difference the truck makes

Pinnacle CHU-613. I went from a 36” sleeper on the Pete to a day cab. It has along wheelbase and is actually longer than the Pete and is heavier. In the three years I had the Pete I slept in it twice. I mostly do day trips or stay in motels.
stayinback, stwik, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this. -
Pinnacle's a nice ride. An outfit near me has a gorgeous tridrive Pinnacle with a small sleeper. Definitely stands out from the crowd. Mack isn't popular up here since the nearest dealer is about 5 hours away so we don't see very many.
Oxbow and MartinFromBC Thank this. -
Honestly, I'd take a well-maintained 2000-2007 truck of any make to anything 2009-2016. At least now (2018+) the manufacturers are actually putting some time and effort into design and function into the trucks, both mechanically and ergonomically, and emissions controls aren't as big of a gamble, they will actually go the manufacturer-designated 500k miles before needing significant repairs.
The C-13 was never designed to win races up hills. I drove a 2004 for almost a year, it ran and ran and ran and ran and never complained. They aren't as reliable as their C-15 sisters long-term, but they are still very solid and surprisingly lightweight (about 400 lbs less). -
I am replacing bit by bit all of my older trucks with new Mack Granites. The MP8 engine seems extremely under rated, they say 505 hp but it will way out pull a cummins 565 or 600. The six i already have are completely trouble free trucks!
I to use day cabs and we stay in hotels.
Congratulations on your newer ride! -
I hear you. That was my logic when I bought the 379 I was scared to death of emissions but I haven’t had a lick of trouble out of the Mack yet and buddies who run them haven’t either. I talked for a while to the previous owner who traded four used trucks in on two new ones at the dealership as they lost a contract and were downsizing. He said it was an awesome truck with no issues they just get new every few years. It only has 138k miles.
My Pete could have definitely had more maintenance done to it but I seemed we were fixing something every thousand miles. Like every trip you wondered what would break. I spent 9k in repairs the last month I owned it.Lysdexis, Zeviander, stwik and 1 other person Thank this. -
