Someone was on here a month or so ago that was required to instal a crash avoidance system in there Fed Ex truck to get there contract signed. They had to buy and have it installed by a approved vendor. But then there dash lights didn't work anymore? Lol

How so?

My guys know about them. They also know to not be on the phone while driving unless hands free.

If one of my guys gets into an accident and we get sued / and I can play the video a minute before and 30 seconds after a critical event - (and the driver is alert and doing his job) AND the forward cam catches the other party screwing up then we walk out of court winners.

All it takes is one (or a team) of aggressive lawyers to pick apart the driver's actions any time during his/her operation of the equipment. Not having both hands on the wheel at all times? Look into one of your mirrors for too long? Sneeze or yawn too much? Etc etc. Even talking on a hand free device can cause for a distraction. I have met MANY people that simply cannot talk and drive at the same time.

Any and/or all of the above will be used against the operator. Not to mention the privacy end of things. Who the hell wants a camera watching your every move in your living room/bedroom/office?! If YOU want one great but forcing it on others who don't is just wrong and it opens the door for much more intrusion.

I forgot to mention the camera also has the lane departure and collision warning crap strapped to it. The chirping and buzzing drives me insane. I drive in NYC where the roads suck and you get cut off all the time. All of this together makes staying here untenable.
I'm going to step out of this truck and try another field.

Don't bother with FedEx ground. They are implementing speed limiters on ALL trucks. They won't renew contracts unless the trucks of the contractor are governed to 65. In a few years they'll want all the trucks to have that auto-braking crap as well. I guess FedEx wants to buy my truck and I'm waiting for my employee benefits package.
I'm outta here. They're not going to tell me what to do with the truck. First it was the ELD, then camera, now the speed limiter. Let's also not forget the paint job that you HAVE to have if the truck isn't white. Too much take, take take and not much give. They don't pay well enough to pay to put up with this crap.
Don't go there. If you want to be micor-managed and treated like a second-class citizen, well go right ahead...

They require you to bring on at least 2 trucks minimum.
I saw a contractors settlement, he is getting $1.19 plus fuel surecharge.
Fuel at the terminals are currently about $2.05-$2.15

This is for Linehaul, and you will get the same miles every week, so it's predictable , and fixed for the most part. But starting out, you'll probably get a decent run for one truck, and a ######## run for the second truck. Also they usually do what's called "city work" which is picking up at a customer and bringing it back to the terminal. You might get 3-6 pickups per day, with a 300 mile round trip Linehaul.
This is how they do it for most trucks.
City work pay is a set dollar amount. You might get $20 for one pickup, and $50 for the next. Usually you do all of the pickups with one trailer, bring it back, hook to your Linehaul trailers and go. Drop, hook, and come back. Also I believe you get $5 for every time you hook or drop a trailer. I'm not positive how that actually works. I get $4 for every trailer I drag from my contractor.
Not sure about plates.
You pay tolls.
No hazmat generally.
They deduct ifta.

They don't like when your truck breaks down and you can't cover your run. They apply points when you don't cover, and if you get too many points, they start threatening you.
Office people are generally really easy to work with, as long as you do what you're supposed to do!!!
Not really any sitting around unless you're team driving. I don't know much about the team runs.
Overall, I'd say it's a good place to do business with if you're willing to work 5 days a week no matter what!
And if you're willing to run at least two trucks to start.
Pretty much guaranteed the same money every week, which is the attractive part of it all. But you won't really have the opportunity to make anything extra, except during peak (Christmas).
You can bid on new runs as they become available, but seniority rules that process.
Trucks get beat up pretty good at Fedex, that's just how it is. Be prepared to spend a lot on maintenance, especially if you're hiring drivers to drive your trucks. Drivers don't give two ####es about your truck, they just want to go home as soon as possible!!! Most runs are set up for the driver to go home every day.
Fedex does take care of the trailers for the most part. Dollies are another story!
I personally don't think it's worth the headache, however if you're a very driven individual, you can do well a ground!
No matter what, you're still under their thumb. Do yourself a favor and get your own authority, and do what the hell you want, when you want, how you want, and for how much you want!!!!
