ROFL! I'm just not sure if I want my hubby to mentor me. We might not survive and his butt might be kicked out of the truck. But I guess I couldn't do that really since I would be the trainnee. But that might be fun to try. I would like for him to get some more experience, and wait till next Spring. The biggest thing that holds me back and jumping into it is winter time. I know I drive good but driving a rig on snow and ice is a whole other story.
I was answering a specific question from MCR. Her husband already works for Swift....thus she would be the spouse trained for free. She and I were speaking about spouses of Swift drivers. However I'll be happy to be as specific as you need. Any spouse of a swift driver can be trained for free, yes. If two non Swift employees wish to become drivers then one will pay and one will be trained for free. The exception to this would be if the couple (who had one spouse trained free) should divorce and one gets a new spouse that wishes to be trained. The new spouse will not be trained free. One set of spouses get one free training. Hopefully that will clarify it for you OH.
I'm still torn over the issue of is it good for spouses to train each other. But for me it was very simple. I wouldn't get onto a truck with anyone other than my husband. It's due to an event in my past and frankly he is my rock and my shelter. However............that doesn't mean I won't one day bash him with a rock and toss him out of the shelter. Just kidding! A number of students have trouble getting the docking/backing quota in and I'm told it's pretty common in husbands mentoring wives. Most likely they're like my husband who has always pampered me and thus.......still pampers me. (yes I'm the woman who sits in the cab while her husband insists on fueling the truck) I thought I was safe in waiting for spring too MCR....I got on the truck on april 9th. We took it nice and slow....two weeks with him in the passenger seat as I drove. Then we went to team driving. The second shift that I was driving with him asleep....it was at night in WY and we hit an ice storm. Third shift I hit a snow storm in Idaho. Both times he'd had beautiful sunny weather. Late april and I get ice and snow.........not to mention falling rocks, an elk that charged my truck, a bridge that washed out in front of me......two 18 wheelers that jacknifed on a bridge in front and behind me. It was as if he drove all was wonderful with the world and then I got behind the wheel and all **** broke loose. LOL When this winter was coming I was SCARED. There's a thread I started asking for everyone's advice about winter driving. I read every single post over and over, made a notebook of the suggestions and my fleet manager praised us at the end of the winter season saying we did the best on the fleet and that I had the best winter record. I give all the credit to the other drivers on this forum. and kitty litter. kitty litter is the BOMB!!!!
In all honestly, I don't think I could have anyone train me but hubby. My hubby pampers me too. I doubt I'll do anything but drive.....Lol! I know those experience must have scared you but since you experienced them in the begininng it probably made you a better and safer driver. Seriously, kitty litter? I wonder if that would work on our hellicious gravel hill? Thank you Texas-Nana for your great answers. This definatately gives me/we other options.
Sure ladies...we (men) know the plan...it all starts about 30 minutes prior to the SECOND date...the "training and grooming" stage!
Haha, Thats the truth. And when they are telling their girlfriends about what a great guy he is, it is femalespeak for "he is taking to the training well". Seriously, I think it is perfectly natural for the men to show chivalry when it comes to training/working with their female partners. And as for spouses mentoring, who better to look after your safety, personal concerns and success then your mate. They only have your best interest at heart. -SgailDreugan
Don't forget the extra miles and the better paycheck! More "funds" to play with at Macy's and Victoria's Secret!
Seriously the kitty litter is amazing! Get the gravel kind. It got me through some horrible traffic jams on icy 15 this winter. Idiots umm sorry......4 wheelers traveling to fast would spin out and cause these horrible traffic jams where we'd have to sit and sit.....then we'd have no traction. Others got stuck...but we tossed kitty litter under the wheels just like I was told to do on the Trucker's Report and we got to creep along the road. When I insisted we buy the stuff my hubby fussed and fussed, thought it was soooooooo stupid. I can not tell you how many times he would look at me and say "man I'm glad you insisted we get the kitty litter Baby". And it works wonderful in slanted docks too! Kitty litter -- Nana's lil winter friend lol
