Nana,
Speaking of training. I would like to ask anyone that has gone through the Swift training to give me some insight to job placement with Swift, after training. I ask this, because my sister-in-law told my wife about a guy who went through the training and ended up with nothing but the school loan to pay off and no job. She likes to find the negitive in everything. I know there is a chance I might not get hired, but what about placement with another company? Do they help you? Do they only pick the best for their work?

What am I missing about Swift?

I'm trying to think of a nice way to express my thoughts. The nicest I can get is: someone is spreading manure with that story.
There is no written guarantee that a student will be hired. But the only ones I've heard of that aren't are ones that Swift tried and tried with: sent back to school, rementored, and still couldn't train. Or the student got off the mentor's truck or refused a truck or washed out on the developemental fleet.
There's also people who quit and for some reason think they shouldn't have to pay off a 0% loan.
But I know of no one who passed school, mentoring, testing and then were not hired.
As to your other questions: no Swift doesn't help you find a job with another company. Swift doesn't train for the money they train for the drivers. If they invest time and money in someone's training it's for the purpose of hiring that individual.
I don't want to be rude........but the guy who told that to your sister in law..........well I'd bet you cold hard cash $20 that there is more to his story than he's telling.JustSonny, otherhalftw, lupe and 1 other person Thank this. -
Nana,
Thanks for the info, and YES I do agree with you on the "there's more to the story". No matter what I do, my sister-in-law will find something negitive in it, and then tell my wife. Total looser.
I also agree with the training. I can't believe that they would spend the time with someone, then just let them go. I have talked to a driver, just the other day at Walmart, who has been driving for a while, and just loves it. He said they offered him a job, before his training was up. Good news!!!
Well, I'm off to Alabama on the 29th of this month to ride with a dear friend of mine, for a week. I want to get a feel of a truck and go over everything on the CDL test with him. I though since I have a chance, then I would do it.
I called Kevin, down at Swift, and it looks like I could get into the mid-Aug training. YEH!! So that's the plan.
Thank you again for all your help.

Carrying #16 Sand is something I got from my Dad years ago, good for refer floors also works on ice to get moving, very inexpensive
We we at a downhill dock in Sugar City Idaho in Jan or Feb, the old man told me to make sure I was lined up for the door out in the middle of the lot, and of course being new I thought I'd look stupid, but none the less did what I was told. About 80 feet from the building the rig started sliding backward and there was nothing I could do about.
A gentle BANG into the docks and we were in. But I thought for sure we would never get out, When we got thru unload we went out and he had me toss sand on the load ramp like seeding a lawn. Easied into 1st gear and right our of the ramp first try. The guy beside had been trying most of the time we were there to pull out, last we saw of him was still trying as we made our left out of the driveway...
I bet the liter works well. -
Swift takes students into training with the sole motivation that the students will complete school/orientation and become Swift drivers. I finished up at the academy in Memphis about a month ago, went to my home state and got my CDL, then went back to Memphis for orientation and am now on a mentor's truck getting in my drive time before I get my own truck.
It's all about honesty, willingness to put up with the little imperfections in the system and determination to get behind the wheel of your own truck and start turning out miles and $$$$.
Do I think Swift did everything perfectly? Nope!
Do I have a CDL A and am I on the way to having the keys to my own truck? Yep!!
That'll work...mcr1016, jtrnr1951, rayodeluz and 1 other person Thank this. -
Oldnew -- I say we just keep the money and take Gecko and the two of us to dinner. LOL
No company or driver is perfect. -
I absolutely understand. -

Well that is why Swift has always pushed the L/O---O/O to become mentors...who better to sell a deal than one that is doing it?JustSonny Thanks this. -
otherhalftw and Texas-Nana Thank this.
