I do both depending on terrain.
When you double, you only need a slight nudge on the clutch. Takes time to develop. Learn to shift smooth.
    Smooth.
    Smooth.
Everyone, except me I guess, wants to be in 6th coming out of the fuel island. Well that's fine, but you need to learn how to do it smoothly. Smooth. Smooth.
Way too many students, or new driver just go way, way, too deep on the clutch pedal. Just nudge it. If you squeezed your girls tits like you stomp that clutch pedal, and jam the gear shifter, wouldn't she react about the same way the truck does?
    Smooth is fast.

the easy way is to know the sound of the truck. The hard way is finding the sweet spot with road speed and rpm level.
