You are right about the hobos and others completely streamlining their expenses, and it is hurting everyone. But the family guys have to do what they can as well and we can't all afford to sit it out on principle.
If any of you O/O's decide to team-up for a short while before going bankrupt, give me a call!!! You can solve your variable expense problem by drowning your fixed expenses in twice the miles.
What am I missing?

This is one of my actual loads and it took 5.5 days to do it,
The going out was a dedicated run, but I no longer have this run
and I will explain why that is in my next post.
DH pulaski,tn / nashville,tn: 80 miles ( not paid )
nashville, tn / seattle, wa: 2450 miles ( paid $1.50/mile )
DH seatlle, wa / tacoma, wa: 60 miles ( not paid )
tacoma, wa / fort worth, tx: 2200 miles ( paid $1.10/mile )
DH fort worth, tx / dallas, tx: 50 miles ( not paid )
dallas, tx / nashville, tn: 663 miles ( paid $1.20/mile )
DH nashville, tn / pulaski, tn 80 ( not paid )
total DH miles: 270 total paid miles: 5313 total miles: 5583
_______________________________________________________
pay
2450 # $1.50/m = $3675
2200 # $1.10/m = $2420
663 # $1.20/m = $ 795.60
__________________________
total pay: $6890.60 - 25% broker fee of: $1722.65 =
( $5167.95 to truck )
5583miles divided by 5.5mpg = 1015 gal
1015 gal fuel: # $2.30 average= $2334.50
So $5167.95 - $2334.50 = $2833.45
$2833.45 - $1116.60 # .20cent/m my friends wage = $1716.85
$1716.85 - $150 for food = $1566.85
so I made about .28 cents/mile. what a joke. LOL BUT
then I still got: scales, upkeep fund, mis, and income tax.
BUT I have no truck payment. God forbid if I had
a truck payment, house payment, car payment every month. ROLMAO1pissedoffdriver Thanks this. -
Now on to the reason I no longer have this run: I was telling a driver about the run I was on, and wouldn't you know it he went and informed his big company, I guess to gain browny points and they took it away at a cheaper rate. This is why anymore I will not tell what I am making currently. that sorry driver. I would be ROLMAO but that was not funny, I hope that company chokes on that run, because as you
can see it didn't pay sh** anyways IMO by the time it was all said and done I may have brought home clear $700/week. So why I ask myself
( many times ) am I putting up with the headacke for only $700/week, not to mention people like that F'n driver when I can drive for a company and have less headacke and paperwork and have good benifits and paid vacations? ROLMAO.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 28, 2009

Why is everyone so suprised? This crap happens everyday. Driver hears about or sees freight, tells his company. His company jumps on it like Froggie. The customer's decision maker makes no secret about the rate and a carrier gives the scum sucking decision maker a lower rate and poof your company just lost a nice piece of business. Happens everyday all the time and if you think it's bad in the truck load business you ought to see how it is in the LTL arena. It's brutal.

Thats why I believe drivers are also to blame for the way the trucking industry is these days. I admit companies and other things are at fault
to and its not all a drivers fault, But in my case the driver was at fault.
I did not cut someone elses throat to get that load, nor will I ever, why because I wouldn't like it done to me, thats called RESPECT which is
something alot of people this day and age have little of. I was offered these loads and if anything I try to haggle for a better rate. like if they
say it pays $1.17/mile I try to get $1.20/mile, I admit it doesn't always work, but at least I am try to get the rates up not cut them down. So when a driver helps a company or himself by going in behind another
driver and they cut the rates thats BS, because they don't realize it
hurts not only the driver that had the run, but also everyone else,
because now that company with the load is not going to pay $1.50/m anymore when they know someone will haul it for $1.35/m. As my dad always said " Its easier to go down hill then up hill, and many will choose down hill only to find themselves in a hole that they may not be able to
get out of, but then it will be to late."luvtheroad and 1pissedoffdriver Thank this. -

Yous don't know rate cutting until you try to haul cars,...Christ I never thought it would have been that cut throat,........Glad I'm out of it,....Now I just need to sell the truck...
1pissedoffdriver and Thumper Thank this.
