8 month contract doesn't matter, whoever you go with you're still going to need to get at least 1 year OTR

I think part of the problems arise from wannBees who DON'T do their research homework, and don't really know what to expect.
As long as you're aware of what to expect going in, it should be less of a shocker for you.
That's not something you should let ANYone answer for you.

    BINGO!

I'm glad you brought that up, Jash.
    Well,...... maybe --- maybe not.
    Too true!
A Big truck can be small when two drivers are sharing the interior.
Not to mention the possibility that y'all might get on each other's nerves.
A GOOD team is not unlike a successful marriage.
You cover each other's backs, know each other's strengths and weaknesses, and figure out the BEST way to deal with those things.
If one member of a team feels they're doing more, or too much work than the other half of the team, tempers can flare.

It can sometimes take well over a year for a GOOD team to gel. Invest enough time to determine whether y'all are compatable. But not so much time that y'all wanna strangle each other.
It also helps if you live in the same general area.
    That's for sure! :yes2557:

Something to consider when going with a strictly team company, rather than teaming for 6 months, or so, then solo, as some other companies do, ---- if your plans are to evedentually run solo, and all you've run is team with your starter company, it may well be a bit of a culture shock when you suddenly find yourself all alone.

Personally, I think teaming when first starting out is a positive thing. GOOD teams help each other learn and can offer each other support --- which can be comforting and encouraging.
But a bad team combination can drive a driver to drinking.
If y'all find you can't get along, by ALL means, request a change ASAP.

And of course aftershock brings up another good point.

Teaming is harder than a marriage.............At least with a marriage you get to date for a while. and other things.......

When teaming you are so interested in geting out there on the road you onl talk to someone 15-20 minute on the phone ask what you think are the pertinant questions....IE smoke, not, pet, how long driving, etc.

Unfortunately that is only the tip of the iceberg......It goes into how do you feel about driving at night, can you backup, can you operate the qualcom, can you manage your own money, are you a gambling addict, and on and on.

These things you find out after spending a week on the road and can't take the time back.

My first 6 months I went through 5 co-drivers. Different issues from driving skills to initative , sense of work ethic to hygeine............

It is truly an experience......can be fun, can be a nightmare.

One key thing to remember..............you can learn things from everyone/anyone............what to do and what not to do. Use it learn from it.

    Good luck........................

    AfterShock Thanks this.

I wouldnt go by minimum numbers, rest assured theres someone who got there just before or just after you with slightly more seat time. Happened to me with a mechanics job at Pepsi and Norfolk Southern. :p

Not trying to discourage the original poster, apply away when you get to that point but dont assume its yours.

What's a contract? Why not try a smaller company where you can talk to the boss instead of just signing with the ones with the most advertising? Doesn't all that advertising mean they have high turnover? Why is that? Get away from the internet and go find a good job...you don't have to play their game.
