Well today I grounded everything really well and omh tested everything. Got 2 ground straps running now and sanded all the paint off. Ran the new coax from dx engineering and put a tiny bit of soder on the ends and tested omhs and had to redo one end but got it all setup. Waiting on my 2 5ft firestiks

Sounds like you are on the right path to get things working properly. Long gone are the days when you just bought a new radio and antenna, installed them, adjusted the antenna or antennas, and then enjoyed your new setup. Now you have to spend more money replacing coax and doing bonding work, and paying extra for a so called peak and tune that the tech recommends.

    why?

Most radios today are aligned pretty well, peaking and tuning by a wood butcher is what causes problems.

Appears to be good to go! Take your local radio checks with a grain of salt unless you know who is giving you the check.

Well as you know it's due to the lack of education about radios and antennas.

Eleven months later I finally did it! Amazing how much I’m picking up now with the new Antenna. It’s a Hustler metal mid-loader. This one is 4’ so it’s 2 feet above the sleeper. Got it at the Knoxville West TA CB shop. Pricy $73.56 IMG_4774.jpeg but what isn’t these days

I really didn’t want a fiberglass one because I was constantly breaking them clean off. They would load up with ice and stay swaying back and forth until they snapped. This new one I can see already is going to be hitting the top corner of the sleeper so I got to figure something out..maybe a small piece of foam..

Kind of kicking myself for not doing it earlier but that’s my ignorance.

Try finding a short piece of pvc just barely big enough in diameter to fit over about a foot to stabilize it some more..

Did the very same with a 7ft skip shooter and my 102 on a riser..Worked perfectly..

Poke a hole on a tennis ball. A hole small enough where it barely slides on the shaft.
