In 35 years of driving I have always kept my CB radio on. I prefer the Cobra 29 peak and tuned with a 5 foot Firestik antenna to be a very good combination. The SWR is 1.2 to 1 and I have no problem receiving or transmitting 3 to 5 miles.
AfterShock, Numb and TravR1 Thank this. -
1, 17, 15, 19, depending on where you're at.

I-5 corridor from California all the way through Washington state is channel 17, 19 just about everywhere else. Not sure why we're different here. The annoying thing is having to listen to the "my radio is bigger than yours" base tower yahoos all over the place.

The highway patrol in some states have CB's and monitor the channels to see what we're up to. I was in Idaho last year running at 2am in the morning, and I passed a car that had just run into an embankment. Everybody was ok, but a few minutes down the road an Idaho trooper came on channel 19 asking for help locating the accident. I gave him the direction and the mile marker.
