yeah in Ca. its 17 from SR 58 all the way north into Or. SR 58 its 19. The Grapevine is 15 if I remember correctly. Around L.A. it's anybody's game ! Most locals in L.A. area use 12 FYI.

In 35 years of driving I have always kept my CB radio on. I prefer the Cobra 29 peak and tuned with a 5 foot Firestik antenna to be a very good combination. The SWR is 1.2 to 1 and I have no problem receiving or transmitting 3 to 5 miles.

I-5 corridor from California all the way through Washington state is channel 17, 19 just about everywhere else. Not sure why we're different here. The annoying thing is having to listen to the "my radio is bigger than yours" base tower yahoos all over the place.

Indeed. The base stations pretty much make getting any local in some cities impossible. I key up on them. They may be bigger but nobody remotely close to me will be hearing those base station, ham band losers until I let up.

The highway patrol in some states have CB's and monitor the channels to see what we're up to. I was in Idaho last year running at 2am in the morning, and I passed a car that had just run into an embankment. Everybody was ok, but a few minutes down the road an Idaho trooper came on channel 19 asking for help locating the accident. I gave him the direction and the mile marker.

Was convoying through NC and one of the other drivers gives a heads up of where a bear liked to sit in the area. As soon as he gave that info over the CB, a set of headlights flicked on and off at us from a tucked away little spot he had his cruiser parked. No doubt, they can be found on 19.
