30,000 miles at 12 cpm as a team driver, with a guaranteed $600/week. That's a non-split rate, so with you driving half the time you are effectively getting 24 cpm for those 6-8 weeks. Then, you get your own truck and 36-41 cpm.
Compare that to Swift, where you have three weeks of nothing, 4-6 weeks of minimum wage (literally!), and then into your own truck at 25 cpm, going up to a whopping 34 cpm after one year. They also take two years of driving for them to pay off your loan, while Prime only needs one year.
Speaking of loan forgiveness, the "contract" isn't hard to get out of. All you need to do is agree to pay back your schooling. For most companies, the forgiveness is worth somewhere around 3 cpm on top of your mileage pay, so if a better offer comes along, then by all means take it.
As for a separate school... You can leave a training company right after getting your CDL-A, and owe them for thier training; usually around $4000. Compare that to the local CDL mill. My local "driver training school" has a three week course to get you your CDL-A, at a cost of $7900, which is NOT eligible for government assistance. (They have a six month course that is, for $20K.)
Weigh the options, and make the choice that's right for you. -
CR England lost the class action lawsuit; OOIDA filed the lawsuit on behalf of the drivers.
Prime pays trainees $600.00 a week while with a trainer; don't know of any that pays that well. No money up front for the training.
If you know of another company with a better, cheaper plan than Prime or Central Refrigerated, then post it for LoneWolf14.Last edited: Apr 9, 2013

Hands down, gotta go with Chinatown, I would highly recommend Central. Central was very, very good to us and I have never, ever been at a company that did so much for us! They are large enough to keep you busy yet small enough to still treat you like a human being.

Are you a Vet? Some companies offer apprenticeships for Vets. And you mentioned class B license how many years have you had that? Again community colleges offer grant money.

Maybe you should look at costs before you assume schools are more expensive. Some are, some aren't. Anyone trying to enter this business needs to do as much research as possible. Then base their choices on what fits for what they want, not what some other driver tells them is right or wrong.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this.

Company or school? That is going to be up to you. I'm going to tell you to take your time and choose wisely as either choice is going to require an investment of time and money. Talk to several companies and several schools then choose the option that is going to work best for you.

Take your Class B and go to expedite straight truck . More money for less miles and no training required . http://www.successfulexpediters.com/madsen/

No not a vet. Have had Class B since 2007 never had a job with it as I injured my back in 2008 and was disabled for a few years but now I am back on my feet and ready to go.

Oh and so far CR England is the only one to contact me back...need to call them back and see what they have to say.
