My dad actually worked on the team that created Quickserve for Cummins, I'll have to heckle him about it not helping you at all lol

Small cam follower boxes equal small cam, no exception, but not all of them have a compression release. Yes all that big cam stuff will fit on one.The block is a little different in the water pump area, on at least some of them, and seal area behind cam. Some did not have piston cooling nozzles. CPL # could be on brass tag on injection pump but it probably is big cam. If they used the big cam oil cooler and pump it will have BC oil pressure.
Did some of those back in 80's when big cam blocks were expensive and small was laying around. Used to build them to a 400 by the CPL book.No way anyone can tell what you really have without a camshaft, injector, and piston, numbers.

I appreciate everyone's input on this. Concluding it's a small cam just didn't realize that all those parts would interchange. Long as she keeps running strong then I'm happy. Was just the curiosity that got me. Thanks again

My Big Cam 3 has "Big Cam" stamped on the drivers side of the block, about the middle. What I am having a hard time with is finding my SN. Can someone post a pic of where this thing is? My engine is pretty dirty and I have check in several spots but to no avail...

Engine serial # is stamped into the block on the fuel pump side. There's a flat area at the rear just below the cylinder head

    SheepDog and BoxCarKidd Thank this.

Take a small wire brush to the area to grind off the dirt and old paint.

You could try using the vin# & call the truck dealer. They should be able to tell you what it was built with.

    LWT104 Thanks this.
