I was in banking, worked for three different banks and I just did not want to be any part of these criminal organisations. Also sold real estate for a while. Than I did accounting and got involved with investments. The main reason I got into trucking was to make more money faster and increase my investment capital. Meanwhile started my holding company and slowly building it up. I hope I will be able to get out trucking asap, once my investments can generate enough passive income. I did not want to work for corporate America, so sick of the BS, I am just not a company man. In trucking I say what I want and I can change jobs even every month or every week if I see they are trying to rip me off. Not even 2 years of driving I changed 6 companies. But still managed to pull 47k in my first year of driving. However in my second year I will make less, at least that's what it looks like so far, but mainly due to some time off. By the time I finish my second year I will most likely have total of 8 weeks off and still estimating to pull over 40k.

BTW : what's up with these tankers jobs? I am getting my hazmat/tanker endorsements cause I am thinking of driving local but I am just still not sure if this is going to work for me or not. I guess I will have to go for it and try and than I'll see. Can always go back OTR or whatever. I'd appreciate some hints.

I left law enforcement after 14 years. I got tired of all the backstabbing and ### kissing some did. Not only that, but the bad guys are getting way more aggressive and it's harder and harder to make charges stick it seems anymore. The politics of the job are exhausting. I desperately needed a change.

I worked on Wall Street selling data to the investment banks. My career ceased to exist in late 2007 and it will probably never come back. Make 1/3 the money now but happier than I have ever been. I have gotten a few job offers from old clients and business partners in the last year. Feels very good to say "no thank you". I was also a business owner (three times, failed once and sold two) and a small business management consultant. Lived on airplanes, traveling by truck is way nicer. The nicest part of my past is I have entertained clients and sales reps in pretty much every major city so I know where to take my wife when we get stuck for a weekend somewhere.

sounds like people were all over in different fields.

Yeah its not all about money but making money is nice too, the great thing about trucking is that there are always ways to make a little more if needed, run harder, get your own truck, find a higher paying company, get endorsements etc etc. I know there are some truckers out there that do make 6 figures and they work their ##### off and smart business people. Trucking is all in how you do and accept just as any career but if you dont enjoy doing it then you probably wont make as much money out there.

So far I love doing it and I hope I continue to enjoy it in the future, the only thing I hate is being away from my daughters. Eventually I will take my oldest daughter with me during school breaks and maybe at times my wife can ride for a week at a time. My wife mentioned selling everything and moving into the truck with me once I get my own, I told her its not a family lifestyle and its not what she thinks

i am a mason by trade, setting brick, block, stone(real and cultured), pavers, concrete, tile etc if it is made or set with concrete i did it. but also did manufacturing, drywall, framing, phone sells, and food service.
was in trucking in 06 but stopped after 5 months due to family medical issues i enjoyed driving for the short time and now since i can get back to doing it trying to get back in the door. i knew i would go back to this industry i still have my cb,fridge dvd tv and the tools used for flatbedding even the bungees lol over 100 of em still. this time around though i think i will do van though.
i know what to expect i know the starting pay is low. life on the road takes a certain type of person some cant handle it. best part about this go around is i have no home expenses to worry about no car payment no rent/mortgage to worry about just child support for 3 kids.
