I agree with you, you should not have to pay the owner anything. When you pay the tuition that should cover everything. The cost of buying insurance is part of operating a business, so the fact that this guy is trying to put it on you tells me he doesn't have the proper insurance or he's running some kind of fly by night school. I would contact the transportation dept in your state or the state attorney general.

 

After reading this I know the future of trucking is doomed to hell.

I do know better, I know to be responsible for my own actions and not pawn a mistake off on anyone else and your post is typical of irresponsible people today. You do not know any better since it was never your fault but someone else s.

I agree with you, if you make a mistake you should man up. When I say mistake I'm thinking something along the lines of a newbie out on their own backing into another truck, tearing off a pole going around a corner, etc. This guy went to a driving school to learn the skills required to be a professional trucker driver. If he was a company driver and hit something, yes, I would agree he should be held responsible(even then he should just have a preventable accident and not have to pay for it--unless the company have it written in print such a deductible applies) He paid $4000 to this man who supposedly ran a legitimate business, and being a legitmate business it should have the insurance to cover such incidents. From what I can gather that is not the case since the man will not let him have his certificate unless he pays for the damage out of his own pocket.

Let's use another example, if a student driver at sears hit something, should that kid have to pay for it?

 

This is not Sears easy method driving school, if you screw something up pay for it and learn from your mistakes.

Stupid should hurt and mistakes should be costly, it may be someones life at risk next time. Trucks at 80K are not a Honda accord or little tin box, they are a rolling battering ram that can kill someone in a instant.

Today's pole or wall may be a human being in a parking lot in the future.
