I thought about doing that, for the same reason you are stating, the only issue that comes up with that is there is no parts that are open sundays and Sat they close early so whatever you need it's going to have to wait for monday anyway. Unless it's something like an oil change or something simple. The other part of it is, if you regularly maintain your truck there is very few things that are not able to be pushed a week or so to get repaired, i try to have all the parts here when the truck comes back and then get it done, so far it's been working really well for me the only issue is that you float a lot of money for parts on weekly basis. Also you need some kind of space to keep inventory.

I agree 100 percent. It seems like in the last couple years phones have become peoples lives and the techs spend more time on social media than working.

I guess I'm pretty lucky, Houston is a big time transportation hub with tons of parts available all the time, even our Freightliner is 7 days a week 24 hours a day. And you hit the nail on the head about having money tied up in parts while waiting for the truck to come in, that can eat up working capital quick, especially if you have a bunch of jobs lined up.

The parts counters at all the dealers and such around here are open all weekend, so my guy can get parts. It's just their crappy service departments either aren't open, or they have one guy working. As for most repairs being pushed out a week or so, that's great, but again, if it shuts me down on days I have to run, it still kinda stinks. All the pre-planning in the world won't change the fact I have to be on the road Mon-Fri to earn a paycheck.

    Don't turn down work!

Had a tire blow out. Called a shop 5 miles away. Guy wanted $800 even tho I had my own spare. Only reason he did it was because he was an ahole. He didn't answer the phone professionally or anything. I'll never call a shop in that area ever again! I'll burn my truck before I call anyone in a 30 mile radius there. That's how pig minded this mechanic shop was.

I like professional mechanics. Don't act like you're God but don't act like I'm God either. Be human. Friendly and if you can't quote me on the job chances are you don't know what you're doing. Also quoting on time. Be honest if it'll take you an extra hour or two for whatever reason. I waited 4 hours once for a 1 hour job but the mechanic was nice, profesional, and did a great job I even left him a $20 tip. That's how great he was.

Looks like the ongoing trend here is customer service and being honest on estimates and sticking to them. Great stuff.

    Hello there WWW.
It is a good trade to work on these equipments. Get the honest person, you can make an honest mechanic out of him or her. The work force of transport are always concern with time and money. Some drivers are always on the go,thats how they live,so time efficientis a key. Dont hold their equipment unless is a must or safety issue. Lots of shops do hold equipment just make money as greed. Be honest and care for the performance you do. Its not the quantity, its the quality I care about.
    Good luck friend.

Its amazing how a 1 degree shift in attitude makes the difference. I always tip my mechanics, because I know its not the greatest job and I am grateful for them. Thank you to all the mechanics.
