I saw this this morning on 77n I'm WV mm 73 at the service plaza. He was on the way OUT of the plaza. He had the landing gear down, so he saved the trailer. I could see the kingpin, so I don't think that was sheared off. What would cause the trailer to jump out of the 5th wheel like that? Really hard braking? Broken 5 wheel? If someone pulled his release handle, you would think it would slide backwards not forwards....
    just curious.....
The driver looked fine, by the way.....

To me it looks like the fifthwheel needs to be fixed considering how the trailer is sitting against the trk.Maybe the bolt broke off.

Either high hooked or kingpin jumped the fifth wheel and was in front of it.If it was in front of the fifth wheel he could have done his tug test and been good and soon as he started moving it slid forward and into the cab. That's why we do a visual inspection. If the fifth wheel just failed to lock I don't see how it would have wound up in the cab.

you can't see the 5th wheel. or the kingpin for that matter. to assess the damage. but generally that happens when the handle is pulled.

the trailer is sitting lower then the truck. and the for whatever reason. way off the side and into the truck fairing.

save the image on your desktop. then view it with the standard windows viewer. it has the option to rotate the picture so that it's right side up.

What I can tell from this picture is the driver is a lazy idiot. He had a perfectly good rear window he could have looked out of. Trailer jumped the fifth wheel and instead of looking he raised the landing gear, hooked up his air and light cord and attempted to booey on down the road. Chances are he won't be driving for that company much longer.
