It's not always cheaper to wait on the product. I do a lot of construction deliveries. What do you think is cheaper, paying a forklift driver to stay a few hours late or paying a whole crew of union construction workers to sit around and wait for a load of pipe/beams/whatever they need to keep working?

Part of the ELD regulations say that any edit will be documented. So while that might work for now, it will leave a paper trailer. Driver might be good for a roadside inspection but the company will be screwed if they have a serious audit.

Yeah I guess it is. But what I'm trying to say is not that they should bend over backwards for us. I'm just saying that if a busy shipper or receiver wants to keep pushing the same amount of volume they currently do, they will probably have to extend their hours a bit. If they can push it to the next day, that's great. But in my experience, most companies don't want to push freight to the next day, even if that doesn't change the delivery time at all. Not sure why, maybe they get paid once the product leaves their property or something? Or they need the space for incoming products.

I'm talking about flatbed freight but I'm sure van or reefer isn't much different, they also have hot loads that need delivery ASAP.

Just remember that when the rule goes into affect, there will always be a record of the edits. If it's a legit mistake you're fixing, that's no big deal. But if you're always fudging the times, you will eventually get caught in an audit.

FMCSA is opening up a comment period for interested parties to weigh in on changes to the ability to split break our 10's in different ways, say 3/7, 4/6 and 5/5 which would be monumentally helpful when ELD comes into effect.
