What 2 loads? 2 loads from SLC or a load from SLC to SoCal and then back to SLC?

If you can stop in Vegas on the trip to CA and then stop again on your trip to UT then it isn't a bad deal IMO. Im sure there are better options out there, but you usually need a bit more experience or own you own truck to do it.

It sounds like a good offer, but get everything in writing, and check the company out to find out how to pursue them if and when they screw you. Keep a thousand dollars cash on you at all times for when you will suddenly need it for travel costs home for you and your stuff. Do the research on who will ship large boxes from your truck to home, and for how much You can't take but two bags on a bus.

Running through home several times a week, how much stuff do you honestly need to pack in a truck?
1000 bucks would get me from Alaska to anywhere in the US. lol

I would never work for a 1099 unless you’re good with your money it just gets drivers in tax trouble in a heartbeat !! I really thought those days were gone I didn’t think it was totally legal to be a 1099 driver, well if I’m wrong somebody please school me!!

    I don't know.

I'll take a W2 from the owner with a four figure rate. He can deal with the rest. Otherwise find a tractor and put me on the title for that 1099 if I am fixing to camel everything uncle sam taxation for him.

    I use a rule-of-thumb to compare 1099 and W-2 pay.
    70% of 1099 pay vs 100% of W-2 pay.
    $1200 x 70% = $840 Gross W-2

I believe since ObamaCare you will pay a fine if you or the company doesn't pay for a qualified health insurance plan. Don't forget you will be paying income taxes, social security (employer & employer) in addition.

NOTICE: I just realized I subtracted taxes TWICE in the example above. Never mind.

I've not been a 1099 for 30-40 years. I pay something like 20% of my W-2 Gross for taxes and benefits.
    $840 Gross - 20% = $672

The way I'd analyze your numbers is
1099 $1200 = $840 W-2 Gross = $670 take-home after you pay taxes and buy benefits. That's assuming you can buy benefits at the same cost as a large employer's employee, which is NOT likely.

Many 1099 jobs do not meet the IRS rules for Independent Contractor. The IRS has a checklist you can use to determine if you are an employee or an IC. Generally 1099 companies just stay in business under the same name for a shorter time and then re-form under a new name, is they stay in business very long. It's pretty easy for a 1099 to just close their doors and leave a driver stranded.

Trump did away with the fines foe not having obummer care right off the bat, as soon as he took office.

Any company can and many w2 companies have closed the doors and left drivers stranded. Most large companies that close have freight under contract and have to run up to the minute they shut down, which means stranded drivers.
