    .
Here's my advise for you. Such as it is.

Just this Thursday, it was announced that 1000 construction projects had been approved and would be getting money appropriated within the next 30 days.

All this comes from the "stimulus". And equates to a pick up in work.

    My opinion.....
You take a huge chance of missing out on the potential work, if you decide NOT to return to the concrete operation.

More projects will get approval soon. So you're ###### if you do, ###### if you don't.

Unfortunately, 1000 projects could be swallowed up in a week by Atlanta contractors alone. That's really nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Now, the fact that we're writing checks our population can't cash...is another thing. OTOH, materials move, truckers move 'em.

My outfit does resedental basements, additions and flat work, sometimes we get a commercial job so the stimu wont help us out much unless they give the money to people that want new houses.

I waited till now because I was making good money back then and I always had work... but now the work just isnt their and from what I have found out it also isnt in trucking right now.

Im fine with working for a crap trucking company for a while so I get experience as long as Im garenteed a job....But I cant go and do 6 weeks of training and get sent home and hope a truck opens up for me because then I get no pay and no job:biggrin_2552:

i know exactly how you feel... i went through driving school 10 years ago and then entered the construction field... i worked in utilities until this past december when i was laid off ( lack of work). i re enrolled in trucking school only to start reading this forum and finding out what was going on out there. i am glad i joined this forum because it saved me $4500.00. where did you go through cdl school for that low of a price in wisconsin ?? i fugure once things get going in the economy again, i will be able to refresh cheaper.

D.D.S. (Diesel Driving School) In Sun Prierie... I only had to take the two week course because I already had my permit and Med Card.. The 4 week class was more expensive..

The problem here is too many people going to schools hope they can get the good, higher paying jobs coming out of school. You need to put in your time to EARN the good jobs. Always has been and probably always will be a fact of life. I put in 10 years before I got the good paying, local job. Now I am laid off (sucks) and trying to find a good job back OTR or regional. I'm having trouble.

Your in a tough spot because of the OWI. I think you need to think long term. $400 a week is just a few dollars more than I get right now on unemployment. Just starting out even if you drive only 2000 miles a week at .30 cpm you make $600. Put in your time, get your experience, do things at your pace, be safe and careful and gain your experience. It will pay off big dividends in the long run.

If you do go truck driving I will pass on the piece of advice that was given to me when I started driving. It came from my mom's uncle who started driving a truck when he got home from WWII. Don't listen to the other drivers who complain. When your in the truckstop, LISTEN to what the old, wrinkle faced, quiet guy sitting in the corner has to say. You will learn more from him than from any school trainer. And the day you know everything.... QUIT! At that point your the biggest danger on the road.

Well Im always intersted in a new job so hook me up...

And I know I wont get the high paying job right away and Im willing to put in the time.. I just need to be garenteed the time and Werner cant do that...

And for all of you that have been with me from the start, I have worked 21 hours In the last two days so Im hoping it stays that way for a long time..50+ hours a week is great:biggrin_25519: that is over time and I like it...

I still want to be a trucker so Im always looking around, but for now Im stuck in the concrete game:biggrin_2552:
p.s. Im going to talk to my boss about driving the boom truck...then I would be around 20$ an hour

Well, it's safe to stay if you don't take the $20 an hour your crazy as they come. If you can advance in your current employeer than do it. Starting over with this economy is down right sucide if you don't have to.

    Crusher....
