IRP documents is that cab card you're holding, as long as it has proper states listed. Don't forget to jot down state line mileages, so your boss has mileages in each state for fuel tax time. (he'll thank you for that)

I'm just going by what's in my book... Might not be applicable for you. I have an Oregon Weight Receipt and Tax Identifier, "Carry this credential in the cab of the power unit at all times" it says. As well as a Drayage Truck Program for CARB; Drayage Truck Registration Confirmation, shows the compliance of the engine as 2007 or better... Don't know that it's necessary, but you never know with California. Whenever I've been pulled in for a paperwork check, it's been the insurance, cab card, and IFTA they've checked, nothing else yet.

don't forget federal inspection; they can & will ask for it periodically along with all above info u were given in earlier posts

also if the truck is leased, have the lease agreement in there as well

You also need to carry a copy of your long form physical, not just your medical card. They have been ticketing people for that alot lately :(

I'm just driver in the truck. Yes there is an annual inspection report and sticker on the truck. I think that's what you meant by federal inspection right

Also make sure that you either have a copy of the trailer registration in the book (if hauling the same trailer all the time) or its on the trailer.

Of course you will always have your Bill of Lading(s) with you in the truck but, to save you a trip walking back out there to get it, always take any & all BOL's with you into the scale house. They will want to see that.

One other snipit, I think it said you were out of LA and going round trip to georgia, it is quite often in the summer months well over one hundred degrees running across I-40 through the desert, I don't know you particular circumstances, but IF you happen to run out of hours, and it is hard to/impossible to sleep while you are in Arizona, store this away for future reference, the Port of Entry at Gallup N.M. is wise to this, and it is not uncommon to find one of the officers out in the shanty asking for every drivers logbook that passes through, so keep this in mind as well.

in N.M. it's called a weight distance permit. you have to pay to travel through N.M. besides just being registered for that state. 16 cents per mile. so you need to know which way you are leaving the state.

just like OR. not sure about the new york thing. i've been lucky that scales haven't been on my route to get to destination. and i haven't been through kentucky yet.

and you can't just buy permits at any state scales. in colorado, you actually have to email the state office for whatever permits you need. takes about 4 hours before they read your email and give you what you need. which means starting the process in the morning. otherwise your screwed at the scales and given a citation. although you can buy a tri-state permit through some online 3rd party.

basically all you need is registration, ifta, and insurance. 3 papers is all thats asked for. i've never been asked for the trailer registration at the scales. but if you get pulled over by a highway patrol. they sometimes ask for it. along with your log book and bol's.

and like mentioned above. you need those annual inspection sheets. but have never had to show them yet. so i'm guessing that would be a level 1 process.

as for the dot long form. i've never been asked and i never carry it. only my medical card. and from the looks of things. i don't think we even need to carry that or our driver license anymore. cuz now it's a nationwide database that any officer can access now. i jsut renewed mine and left them at home after i faxed to the company. (forgot to put back in wallet) cop never said a word. just gave me a level 3 instpection sheet and went on his merry way.

now, if your carrying oversized loads. sometimes they pull you in just to check your oversize permit.

Good clarification, the weight distance tax is in addition to your irp registration and ifta.
