what does Dead-Head mean?

I've wondered that myself.

I ran temple,tx to Jacksonville,il EMPTY AND I LOVED every bit of that 1000mi run easiest load 2 date not counting the storm I ran thru lol!!!!

I just realized something. Trucking would be a lot more fun if you could just bobtail around the country with no trailer.

 

My dispatcher dosent let me off the trailer if he can avoid it now, I guess he wasn't a fan of the truck being in a car show at an ice cream parlor in upstate New York

 

Dispatch once bobtailed me from El Paso, TX to Jefferson City, MO. Ended up being both my longest deadhead and bobtail trip. Interesting trip.

 

Recently dispatched bobtail (tractor-only, no trailer, drums) Indy-Detroit, drag an MT (empty trailer, meaning I was then deadheading, drums) to Elk Grove, IL, drag loaded trailer back to Detroit and bobtail back to Indy. I recommend the every day, all day, soul food buffet at Big Boy on Ferguson in Detroit. Service very good and food great. Chicken, BBQ ribs, okra, sweet potato, hush puppies, black beans with rice and much, much more. Gets my vote!
