I find the opposite I find that there are much higher paying jobs local than otr. There are low paying also, but you can not tell me that all the sleeper drivers are carring butloads of money to the bank, they are not. I make 60+ per year in a local daycab. I can list quite a few jobs in this area and they all pay fairly well.
Mostly its a life style choice, I consider going OTR with my wife as a team driver, which would pay good, but mostly just for the change.slim shady and Marksteven Thank this. -
Really depends on where you live around the philly/nj area running local you can make 40-70 per year somewhere like Fla lucky if you can make 40 per year and its hard to get a local job there especially for newbies

$19.19/hr(starting rate), fully paid benefits, O/T after 40, teamsters, home every night

California being one of the more higher paying areas of the country, Florida being one of the worst. A job in Cali that pays $20 an hour probably pays $8-10 in Florida.

Check Craigslist and Careerbuilder, both websites will have the info you want.

If I could go back 2 years of my life back to being 20 thinking about getting my CDL I would've tried my best to be hired by FedEx or UPS for a non CDL position and try to work my way into the companies Freight divisions.
