Yeah, BigRoad's pretty decent from my experience with it. I've only used it as a backup when QC and PN fail, as opposed to loose-leaf. Maybe it's just that I'm not used to it, but I always manage to make mistakes on paper, and the nice thing about BigRoad is that it will tell you if there are problems and where they lie.
It generally won't let you digitally sign the log for that day until those problems are fixed, either. So using an e-log app as a backup is just less aggravation for me. I run safe and legal, so it's not a big deal to me. Nice to know the paid service is only $25/mo. Does that include the OBD-to-Bluetooth adapter?
I've noticed that BigRoad is missing from the list of ELD providers listed earlier. Is there some criteria or parameter not allowed for that somehow doesn't meet DOT/FMCSA approval? I've been considering this app full-time for if I ever buy my own truck, and I'm curious.
I agree and respectfully disagree here. I've learned to run within the 2013+ HOS, as that is how I was trained. I simply plan the next day accordingly prior to starting my 10-hour, and I've never had a problem. However, the entire reason for the HOS rules and pushing the e-log mandate was to keep dispatchers honest, not to babysit us. Just my $0.02.

Yes, the 25 includes the adaptor. I sat through a webinar put on by NASTC, Big Road has been waiting for the final rule from the FMCSA but apparently that may be a long time coming so they are going to go ahead and self-certify and get this show on the road.Call_Me_The_Breeze Thanks this.

Nice. Do they offer adapters for trucks besides Class 8 tractors, such as 1-ton dually? (Think Dodge 3500-5500, Ford Super Duty and GM 3500-4500 series and anything between those and Class 8)
I really like this app, albeit it's a little cumbersome on a 5-7" screen smartphone. I think it would be perfect on a tablet. -
I started using the Keeptruckin ELD last september and it is very nice! Does all my IFTA miles automatically and you and you can also scan and attach fuel reciepts to the time you fuel and also.. BOL's.
nofilter, pete1 and Highway_Executive Thank this. -
We use geotab, it talks to the truck and peoplesoft, so our in building clock in/out gets updated to our tablets in the truck. Ive read some bad reviews on the system, but those reviews seem to not realize the difference between administrative settings and driver settings. As far as i know you can choose to set it up with a line 5 or not. (We dont, were local)

Cab Mate Connect or Cab Mate Open from Pedigree Technologies. They are both fully compliant ELDs with other neat features such as document capture, diagnostic trouble code monitoring, and TMS/Dispatch software interfacing compatible with most software solutions. Available for single truck owners or even large fleets, priced around $35 per month plus a one time hardware fee (leasing options are available).

Is big roads DOT approved ELD?

At this point it is all self-certification, the actual standards haven't even been decided yet. The government is not on top of this at all and yet the drop dead date is 12/17...you gotta love government efficiency!
