I've been offered a yard jockey job right out of CDL school, but heard this does not count as experience. My other option is to drive for an LTL company. Which one of these would be relevant experience to apply for a garbageman in the future?

How so please explain. My dad and grandfather owned a trash company with rear end loafers and roll offs for 30 years. Also had a transfer station for our own trash with three tractor trailers. Can’t ever recall anyone getting hurt on the job. Just sayin. Had a couple knuckle heads take a highway ramp too fast a couple times and roll the trucks but those are idiot mistakes and no one got hurt

Yeah I can see that now you put it that way. We did have 2 transfer trailers catch fire over night while hooked up to the compactor. Otherwise as a driver, you have to be alert and use sense at all times

The LTL job, insurance company requirements in the future when you move on to garbage or whatever else comes along. Insurance Co wants to see safe road time. Not going to get that as a switcher, even if you do have to transport trailers on public roads, plant to yard, etc.
