An ad has been running in the local free paper....it's a logistics provider. Seems he has a contract to pull NEW cars off the rail head and deliver them to NEW car dealers....he's looking for 0/0's.

This used to belong to the MFC 988 Houston and everywhere else in the country and LOCAL deliveries were made by senior men doing their time. All the union parking lots had a slice of this and the big 3 each had a separate brand to haul. The only real intrusion I ever saw was Danny Herman into BMW and Waggoneers into Volkswagen.

And just to be sure...I eased by a new car dealer and the sticker still shows like $950 for delivery so no change there......

What happened to the union parking lots? Fold up? Anyone got the skinny?

    (yeah, I've been busy, sorry)

Cooper is pulling equipment out of the weeds to run & noticed Cassens had some new trucks. Both of those companies look busy.
Thinking there are more union companies in the north east, someone will know here???

But mfg's are looking outside of unions to get their cars moved across the board. Have never been in a union, but think it is going to get ugly before it gets better.

I'd like to get involved in that...but then, I tend to be a freight #####. I love the challenges of getting America moved.

Yeah, need a union member to straighten this out........ but in my mind...and call me old school, if this "provider" hires an o/o and knocks a member out of work then the whole local would, should, could go out, no?

Bu then we have that sheet with Big R not long ago........so this could be the beginning of the end....dunno.

Unionized Car Haul has gone from over 40,000 drivers (company AND Unionized brokers) to about 10,000 ....

The union companies haven't really been much of a force in the car hauling world around Houston for some time. The biggest players around here have been GST (Gulf States Toyota) who has moved into moving more than Toyotas & CAR Transport, for several years.

I was involved with the car hauling around these parts for about 3 years, (late 2006 - mid 2009), even then the union companies weren't really a factor. Had my trucks pull quite a few loads out of the railhead off of Hardy Road.

Glad I am out of that part of trucking though. Don't ever care to pull another load of cars anywhere for anyone.

Yeah, I declined an offer from GST a few years back...... the money was there but some other things wern't.

I was surprised to see a 3PL carrier set up to pull new stock off the rails. Just imagine the dammage claims the o/o's are going to face.......

Hey Chalupa, set me straight here if you would, why would there be higher damage claims for O/O with 3 place carriers? Maybe I didn't understand your response.

    Thanks Stan

Occasionally we pick up at rail heads, but these are usually the bigger vehicles that most 10/11 haulers don't want because it screws up the "stack". I am wondering if he means that it is hard to get anyone to "sign off" at a rail head IF damage is present?
