But one of the main questions I asked still hasnt been answered. If you quit while over the road what law does your employer have to follow in getting you home? I seriously doubt the employer can come and pick up the truck anytime and leave you abandoned somewhere. Thats where the original line of thought comes into play. The truck is your home until you are out of it.

most of them will send you home via the grey dog.bentstrider83 Thanks this. -
You just notify your dispatcher that you are quitting, and you will be routed back to your home terminal. It may take a few days, and you may have to deliver 2-3 more loads, but that is how you have to do it.
If you don't, you have a nasty "abandoned vehicle report" added to your DAC.
If you demand to quit immediately, and don't want to wait for this, you still have to wait for them to tell you where to take the truck. Anything else is going to hit your DAC report, which you don't want.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
This thread isn't for real is it? Tell me no one would believe that a truck he drives yet doesn't own is HIS while he's behind the wheel. And who would believe a company is "obligated" to get a driver home?
This has got to be a joke.Trucker61016 and Badmon Thank this. -
talk to any major company and they will atleast get you a bus ticket to get home.
If a company told me i had to find my own way they would be picking up there truck at my house.
but thats why i own my truck.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -

Did you ever have a vehicle that your parents owned that they said was yours? It's yours right but you don't own it so they could take it away any time they pleased right?
If you don't own that truck it can be taken away anytime the owner pleases. It would be considered unauthorized use, which is basically stealing.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
. The employer should be able to arrest us for idleing their truck while parked if he doesnt like it. We are stealing his or the corporations fuel. Maybe us company drivers should be paying the employer to drive their truck. Just a suggestion.

If I were you I would tell them you quit. Ask what terminel to
turn the truck into. when you get to the terminel ask the terminel
manager for a letter stateing that you turned in the truck properly
and did not abandon it. Even offer to type it on their typwriter
before you turn in the keys. Perhaps they have some kind of
receipt they can give you. Also they should give you a bus ticket
home. Don't lose sight on whats important. If you don't have proof
you turned in this truck and load you will probably never get a good
driveing job again. I know your tired. You work for JB you have to
be. But this is your future your talking about. There are probably
more bitter ex JB drivers out there than any other kind. Its time
to swallow your pride and look to the future. Just make sure you have
one. -
You're telling me you expect your company to get you back home when you quit on the road? Where did you get that idea? Some companies won't even get you home for your own mother's funeral. And you think you can quit, leave their rigs sitting out on the road, and they'll send what, a company limo to get your ###? Maybe you believe they'll send a private jet and fly you home caviar class.
Man, this is a new one to me. A company is not obligated to get you home. If they DO take the trouble to get you home, it is a favor to you. This is because you may decide to come back to them later as a rehire based on that samaritan act alone.
