stylicho, if you don't want to believe what your being told fine by me. I've only been reading the these interent trucking forums for about 4 months now. I've seen at least 2 drivers who told the company they quit the truck is at xzy place. Next thing you hear from them is they are complaining. The truck was towed in the middle of the night, their stuff is still in the truck, and they can't get to it. Later they find out that their DAC is really screwed up, and am unable to get another job.

You can take it the advise for what you think it's worth. I just don't want to see you companing afterwards because you can't get a job, etc.

Why come here asking for advise when you already know it all? Most people here are just trying to help you out. I don't see why they would purposely lie to you.

Stylicho, I can promise you that I am not an owner operator. Have been in the past, but most recently a company driver. I have been around this business all my life though, including being friends with people that run a company of about 60 OTR trucks.

The company has no obligation to you at all to get you anywhere if you quit, unless they have it written in their rules that way. If you quit on the road, you need to do everything under the best of terms. Once you take the truck out of route on your way home, if they want they can immediately report it stolen and you can find yourself in jail and with a mark on your DAC that WILL prevent companies from hiring you.

It is unlikely that they will strand you somewhere, but they have no laws forcing them to get you home. Leave respectfully, and I will say there is a 99.9% chance that they will have you routed back to your home terminal very quickly, even if they ulitimately have to deadhead you part of the way.

As for companies just putting whatever they want on the DAC, while there are cases that it may happen, it is the exeption more than the rule. But don't think it doesn't matter, because getting that mark off of your DAC can be much tougher than it was to get it on there. I got one of these nasty things from Tollie Freight (Kansas City) several years ago. I went up to their terminal after reading their ad in a truck stop book and talking to them on the phone. Their new 94 model conventionals turned out to be 84 model freightliner cabovers for the new drivers, specially equipped with leaking air seats, no heat (broken), and no power steering. Like an inexperienced idiot, I took a couple loads in it while I was "waiting for new trucks to arrive". After going down a small grade with next to zero brakes, I parked the truck at their small drop yard/terminal east of Atlanta. Tried to adjust the breaks, realized their was nothing to adjust.

I was not even under a load, and could not get in contact with dispatch during the weekend to tell them I was going to quit. Not wanting to drive the truck any further, my wife came to get me from Dallas. I called that Monday morning to tell them where there truck was and that I was not driving it any further. When I went to get my next job, I found myself spending 3 days fighting with this company to the point of threatening to sue them before they finally agreed to removed the mark off of my DAC. I could not get a job until this happened.

Rather than laugh at you, talk down to you, or anything like that, I just want to tell you what you can be getting yourseld into. That truck is in no way, shape, or form yours, which is why most companies have an "out of route" percentage they they allow, and a trict rule against using the truck for "personal use". Driving it home would fall under "personal use".

I know you CANT be talking about me....
Just because Im on the forum's here over the past week and the trucks are running doesnt mean a thing.
This past SATURDAY we got another truck in which I am again going to start driving FT.

Dont just think the O/O's have trucks and pay others to do the work.

I'll bet 90% who CAN work, does work. And Im one of them.

The way I see it, If I dont work I dont get a pay check.... My trucks or not... Most owners do work their own truck's. The reason they put others in the trucks are because they are ( trusting ) and wish to give someone a job who's in need of a paycheck.

Believe this or not, when driving I take home to MATTS bank account $200.00 as an owner Salary and 20% gross..... ...

The company gets the rest... Actually Uncle SAM get the most part of that... hahaha.....

If you think we are doing something wrong? I'd love to hear your advice.

    All the best,
    Matt

I seen somewhere ( Brickman's ) made so much dam moneys he's willing to sell his truck and now enjoy life.... Maybe HE should be one of us who dont work as you stated and stick some greenhorn in his truck to make his paycheck. ( BET ) he could only name 4 or so people he would TRUST enough to ride his rig.... I'll BET money on that!

You can't be talking about me :D

Lol, I just got far enough (I hope) ahead in the game to be able to not go completely broke while switching from one plan of attack to another.
And you are absolutely right on that last part. I've thought about it, but unless I was able to put some one I knew well and trusted in my truck I don't want to have any thing to do with it. The bad thing is that most/all of those I would trust to not either destroy my truck or max out my liability insurance already have their own trucks.

Pro1driver and Stylicho knock it off now. You two have been going at each other like a couple of school kids. If you want to play CB rambo and my internet wick is bigger than yours then take it to either PMs, email or another forum.

    Thank you.

    Hey stylichio!

Didja quit JB yet? And ditch your truck? I think what really happened is that you got fired and now are stuck in your parent's basement with nuthin but your computer. C'mon, fess up. Ya got canned, didn't you. Now you're mad about it and want to somehow get back at Hunt. Don't be ashamed, we've all been there a time or two.
Owner operators? What's wrong with that? Just another way to make a living.
I could go on but I've got to leave for Nebraska to pick up a load of beans for a Friday 0600 delivery in Fresno. I'm sure I'm not the only one on this board who actually WORKS for a living driving truck...
You're right Tip, this kid is stupid
