Look folks, I didn't mean to imply that you had to haul illegal loads or loads that grossed 79,950. I just meant that going into a company on a load that went 500 miles would require about 100 gals of fuel with a buffer. Why go into that place with full tanks when you don't have to?
What I have learned...

Your scenario is correct. It also makes sense that "most" drivers know what their trucks can scale, and most companies do as well. I just don't see why you would want to send a truck into a place that has a 48,000# load and you know your trucks can only scale 46,500# with full tanks. Does that load really pay that well that you need to send the driver in in with 1/2 tanks just to drag it 500 miles and hope that nothing happens like traffic, or weather. I'm not arguing with you, I guess I just don't see the need for pulling that heavy load when there are others that do not require it????

I don't either and that is where the driver comes in. On several occasions I was sent into a steel mill for a load that was more than I could haul. I sent a message to my boss and never put it on the truck. Sometimes the company dosn't know exactly what the load weighs either. It happens, it's not always a conspiracy between the broker and the company to run illegal freight.

You never know....anything can happen you can be detoured, road shut down due to weather ANYTHING .... And my only point is I learned early in the game top your tanks off and weigh your truck, so you know how much freight you can load....when I would run refer out of Cali and AZ sometimes the nearest scale would be 20miles away.... If you dont know how to load your truck and your max amount and stick to it you will be going back and forth for free! It's just something I have always done so I kinda stick to it

That's fine. I have never been more than 50gal from a fuel stop that I can think of even when I was running out west. going into a shipper with 1/2 tanks is just common sense and gives you more leeway to load different freight and where you put it on the flatbed but if you feel better doing it with full tanks and your company is ok with that then more power to you. No argument from me.

What in the hell has this thread turned in to? He was trying to compliment the forum for helping him understand the many needs of drivers and now its a debate on fuel?
All I can say is that I work for Cpape and this is a great company. I could have went to work for my family but choose not to due to the fact that they don't care about anything but the bottom line and here yeah they are going to be worried about the bottom line profit wise but also they respect the needs of there drivers. If they did not then we would run crap trucks and wagons and never get home. Its a great company to work for and would recommend any one to apply.snowman01 Thanks this. -
