I drive the same Mack. And yes, the milage has dropped. The truck I was in had a straight 10 and got at least 1.5 MPG better.
And you could control the surge (tanker). This 12 speed auto shifts when it wants and the surge beats the crap out of everything.

I got 300,000 miles on this Detroit DT12 auto shift and not had a single problem yet. Have to see how long this thing goes. 300,000 not a single problem is good. Remember the Eaton transmissions getting stuck in gear. I know people like shifting gears

The engine Jake brake is so strong because the transmission can bring up the engine RPMs so hight. You can go down hills without touching the brakes. You all are missing out on some nice advacements I'm trucking. Wait till you try disc brakes also!

They are pushing them on the industry because the vast majority of potential drivers have never driven any vehicle with a standard transmission! And have no clue what that third pedal is on the left side. Not to mention knowing the difference between a synchronized transmission versus a non-synchronized transmission.
    (more dumbing down of America);)

He hasn't driven 20 years. Not a chance. If he had, he's have more sense. He's throwing out a for instance.
FWIW my father is 80, still drives a 13 Eaton and his left knee isn't any worse than any other joint on his body.

You use the clutch to get started and in stop and go traffic. I remember driving 2 hour of stops and go traffic to reach the George Washington Bridge toll booth. My leg and knee was very tired. See how much people like to think you don't knowhow to drive. They look for anything to suggest you don't know how to drive manual.

Actually, no. 1.2 million and never stuck in gear. Call me when you get 1.2 million with that POS. Truth is you never will because your boss will trade it in before then.

I have a 1986 B model Cat that holds back 80k in the Appalachians. So much for technology

Why? So I can tailgate more? So I can go faster down a hill? How do they wok on ice? Rookie Kool-Aid drinkers are everywhere.

Use to cross that bridge once a week going into Hunts Point. No problem with that 18 speed, just leave it in either 2nd or 3rd and idle on across. Nothing to it.
