Manuals won’t if you don’t drive like an idiot.

Yes they will. Anything can and will break.

You people act like these autos have torque converters. These are nothing more than automatically shifted manual transmissions. They still have clutches just like the old ones do.

Pumpkin Oval Head and beastr123 Thank this.

In 18 years of trucking I have yet to break a manual, despite the interminable insistences to the contrary by no-shifting auto tranny fanboys.

Just because a form of technology may be new doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better or more reliable. Automatic transmissions aren’t intended to be. The whole point is to dumb down the rest of us to the lowest common denominator of the mega fleet CDL mill window licker that would follow his GPS straight off a cliff just because WAZE said so.

    18 speed problems

Don't even PRETEND that manuals are trouble free.

250,000 miles and he's rebuilt the tranny already and having problems AGAIN.

The bottom line is, as they keep making trucks easier and automated the wages will continue to decline. And the driver pool will increase.

    That’s laughable.
When I sold my truck back in 03 it had 800k on it and the 13 Eaton fuller was as tight as the day it was new and that includes the clutch.
We have some Mack’s that have 500k on them and the 10 speed manuals shift like butter.
As I said before, you have truck drivers and then you have steering wheel holders.

    It's ok.

Your real replacements are currently in production.

    An they can dance.

Those are your future "steering wheel holders". Soon all the people that can drive a stick...will be replaced an made to do nothing but watch the robot drive.

This post is in jest, so no need to get upset.

Soon every driver will go by the handle

I let the computers shift the grears. They tell me when I can drive and need to park. They tell me when to turn left or right. Ha ha ha
