One of the things I love about working nights is it's 8:49 am and I've already went grocery shopping, hit advance Auto for a few things, went to the bank and pulled some cash out I need for the weekend, stopped by my daughter's summer camp and dropped off a check.....all because everyone else is at work. At times it feels like you have the world to yourself lol.

    The decrepit FLDs :(
But maybe if they had a 13 speed I could get used to them

I never drove a 13 or a 18 (other than pulling into shop so it doesn't count). Am I missing anything? I imagine that's for the heavier loads not what I'm doing?

People think they’re superior if they drive a 13 or an 18 speed.
But anyone that can drive a manual and that can read... can read the sticker on how to shift 13 or 18 and master it in a day or two.

Funny you say that because a friend of mine has a pair of dump trucks and was #####ing about how he had a few loads of dirt to haul one weekend and nobody to drive the second truck. I offered to run one for him just to help him out and he told me he didn't want me tearing up his trans because I only know how to drive a ten. I just said okay because I honestly don't know any better.

I drove a 13 speed in 2008 for about 1,500 miles. I did fine with it. I just read the sticker and hung on.

Yes indeed a 13 speed will give you better fuel economy, especially in hills. You can also order your transmission with specific gearing.
