I have the exact opposite experience (and almost at the same time).

I sold my truck to be a company driver. I make good wages (.54 mile). Clear between $850 and $1250 a week. %100 hook, probably about 99% live +/- an hour. Home every day, off every weekend. Really good insurance and affordable.

But I hate every minute of it.
Civilians can't plan like a trucker.

Tomorrow I have a live unload at 11 in the morning 3 hours away. In my generous mind I'm thinking, "they must think they're doing me a favor."
As it is, my day, (back in the day), started at 0500. What am I supposed to do with 3 hours?

All that said, am I excited to be home every night?
Not really. A/C will make you a convert, but there's other ways to make it work as well.

Driving someone else's truck and they can put up with the aggravation?
You bet.

At the end of the day, I did it for The Hazul, (although she never asked me to or complained.........you younger guys need to pay attention).

But I almost always looked forward to the next day.
