It is not. That is humane survival for our wildlife during heavy snow/blizzards where they cannot find food on their on.
Now bait.. That is a mineral block on a short post; up on the mountainside in a small clearing with a clear line of sight back (under 100 yards)
to where you are sitting and waiting in relative comfort.

Carried to the extreme; down here in MS, we sit on the back porch < 100 yards from a nice field of soybeans to harvest deer. Some times we rig up a revolving clothesline to run a bucket of deer corn out to entice, but not disturb the natural scents. It's a science really.

 

Get that wind bucking height down to 15' would improve it a little...
