My 10 was going to be up at 3:45 am. I set my alarm for 3:00 and woke up at 2:55. I normally wake up before my alarm. By the time I poured out my cold brew coffee, chugged a pint, made tomorrow's coffee, did my unofficial pretrip, etc I was sitting in the driver's seat at 3:30 with 15 minutes left to catch up on 5000 pages of "What if it Snows!?" That's when I noticed a reefer runner had gone past me, slowly making the turn past the Boss Shop.
"Oh heck! Let's make someone's day!"
I got out of my truck and did a quick trot to flag down the driver before he got into the mess near the store. "You looking for a spot to take a 10?"
"Yeah!"
"Follow me, I'm about to pull out".
I guided him into position, then pulled out of that wide spot, then stopped and brought out my hand held retina searing spot light to help get him safely into the hole. He was absolutely appreciative. He looked frazzled, at the end of his rope.
I then pulled out to the cluster near the CAT scales and waited for my electronic nanny to tell me it was safe to drive. My day was rewarded by dropping my lowboy in our yard, hooking to a loaded lowboy with an amphibious assault vehicle that was already secured (Only requiring me to flag and banner the load), then rolling to Yermo for delivery. I didn't even have to break down the gooseneck. They had me back into a low dock and ran those tracks over the trailer tires.
Pay. It. Forward.
The next time you see a driver circling the lot and you are about to pull out, go flag that driver down. Because I normally knock off early and have a mind as to how I will get out in the small hours and have a safe parking spot, MY spot will be a nice EASY backing situation for that dead tired driver with his 14 hour clock beating on him.
If YOU have an opportunity to help another driver like that, start making it a #HELPAFELLOWDRIVER sort of thing...
...or whatever those mother####ing millenials want to call it.RidgeRunner731, Gordo 13, austinmike and 14 others Thank this. -

I get on the CB and sell it for $5 like a real good America capitalist.
LOL
No really... I call it out over the CB about 15-20 min. before I leave. I figure a guy with a CB deserves it. He probably told me what lane to get into at some point. Pay it forward is correct.InTooDeep, kemosabi49, thelushlarry and 8 others Thank this. -
