Because the sport has declined so hard for the last 20 years that somehow equates to the drivers declining by the same rate. Simply not the case.. These cup drivers are just as talented if not more then the pettys and earnhardts of the world.. And in my humble opinion kyle larson could mop the floor with those 2 legends. Nascar is the pinnacle of stock car racing and most likely always will be... Itd be a hard task to find a kid racing some form of stock car ,on a short track in backwoods america that doesnt have a dream of making it to nascar one day... Its like saying minor leauge baseball players are more talented than the big leaugers.. Or college... Replace racing with any sport.... Thats effectively the argument from all the nascar haters. Doesnt make a lick of sense... And it undermines all the dudes grinding it out on the late model circuits spending their hard earned money trying to get a chance to make it to the cup series one day....just my useless opinion on one of my favorite series of racing...

I do enjoy anything that involves wheels and engines and going faster then the next guy

I like racing, and football but I agree with the fan part, hands down agree.

For me it has always been more about the cars over the drivers. I am a gear head not a race fan.

As the sanctioning bodies have gone toward one or 2 sources of chassis, in the case of Indy only one source for engines that are sealed at the producer, I have lost interest. It has nothing to do with the talent of the drivers... I do not like the over regulated cars they run.
