It was "Crockett's Victory Garden".
My folks were ALL IN on this guy.
Watched the show, got the book, drank the kool-aid.
Every time the dude came up with a new soil amendment technique, or some vegetable "just perfect for backyard gardens", Dad had me out in the backyard to uproot some sod to extend the garden plot a few more square yards, till up the topsoil, then cut in Dad's Proprietary Mixture of wood ash, cow ####, compost, and vermiculite, so he could plant Crockett's latest and greatest.
This went on from the time I was 11 until 17, when I went to boot camp.
And when I came home on leave, he'd have more Proprietary Mixture on hand for me to cut in.....
What if it Snows?

When I was a kid, I liked to watch the Can-Am racing on the Wide World of Sports. I thought the cars looked cool.
I also liked it when they'd have Joey Chitwood's All Stars performing at some race track as the "pre-event".
The car stunts were cool, but I really admired the guys that would hang off the back of a pickup truck speeding along the straightaway, then when the back of the truck passed a set of cones, the guy would let go of the rope and skid down the track on his butt. Four or five guys would do this, longest distance from the cones wins.
I rigged up a pretty good sling made from clothesline to the back of Dad's station wagon, than ran in the house and asked him if he'd drive down the street with me hanging off the back of the station wagon so I could see if I could be a butt-skidding contender.
He looked me in the eyes, set down his beer, took the cigar out of his mouth, then quietly said, "No".
