SIL a doc says" Mr J, there has never been a "successful" back surgery". Ones I know of may have helped, but not a cure.

Well yesterday ended what has been a pretty lousy few months. As most you know I lost my Paternal Grandfather little over a month ago. But what you dont know, is that I lost my Maternal Grandfather maybe a month or 2 prior to that. He didnt have a funeral or anything fancy... Yesterday the family gathered in his honor at one of his favorite flyfishing spots, Henry's Lake. No program, no speeches... Just family, food, a whole lot of good memories, and many fishing and hunting tales of bygone times.

It was good to see family... Most I havent seen in at least 8 or 9 years, Some as long as 20 years.

Grandpa was a master trout flyfisherman, he could catch fish in a mud puddle if they were there... Or he could pull massive trout from small mountain streams, where others said there were no fish. He was a perfectionist and a minimalist... He could take almost nothing and make it look like it had cost thousands of dollars.

He will be greatly missed, but he will always be with me when I'm fishing Henry's Lake. He taught me you have to "think like a fish" in order to catch fish.

Yeah, we're getting to that age where folks start dying around us. It's a funny thing, really.
    RIP Grandpa

Oldest living sister (90) is deep into dementia. Knows me or seems to. Always burst out a big smile and seems to be happy to see me. Lives in Griffis Greenhouse here at the Traceway complex. Will converse with me on the present topic brought up, weather news I report, remarks on my or her health, and her daughter and 2 grand girls in Park City ,KY. But she can't remember what she had for breakfast or lunch an hour after. Just shrugs her shoulders and grins and says "I Dunno..." Really good in a way, as she does not worry or fuss about anything, Just seems happy and placid with flow of discussion.

(For info on how Green Houses work, Methodist Senior Services | Services - Methodist Senior Services. Scroll down to the green block and read thru it.)

Can Google Earth the complex and see the Greenhouse Locations on the back side of the complex....

Ive lost family and friends before... But with the passing of these 2 men... I dont know... It just hit different. They were, and still are, giants in my life. They influenced me and my life in so many ways...

These 2 men are the framework upon which I am built. Some days it just feels like my foundation has sunken out from beneath me...

Like a ship far out to sea, adrift in a raging storm... A torn mainsail and broken rudder.

It passes, but never goes away. 10 years from now you'll be on the back porch drinking a beer and remember. It just is what it is. But it's ok.
