    Had the same thoughts along the lines of calling dad the other day, Just wanted to hear THAT voice instead of my inner voice tell me "You Got the skills" go "deal with it" and "just get it done".

    I have seen and heard the antiquated phone systems. All the relays in the switch rooms sounded like rocksalt sized hail on a tin roof. Dad worked the power rooms and switch rooms in central offices around the area. We think the fumes from all the batteries and small electrical fires are what gave him the cancer that killed him in '87 ( 2 weeks before his 50th B-day).

    @Oxbow

    Are either of you near a town called Horseshoe Bend?

    I’m watching Bar Rescue and he’s at a place called the Corner Cafe.

    It’s over by Boise off of Hwy 55 from Boise to Cascade— we’re on the other side of the state—have eaten breakfast in it many moons ago— no special memories stand out

    They call it fuel wasted.
    I call it resting in comfort for safety purposes.

    5 nights, and in the 6 days worked, it was shut off once for about 1.5 hours for oil change/service.

    All this talk about dads has me thinking about mine. He’s still around. He’s had a couple heart attacks and a couple strokes. There has definitely been a decline in mental faculties. I’m in that weird place where he isn’t in dementia but he’s definitely not where he used to be. I have a brother who loves him dearly but isn’t too good with working with his hands. So all the problems fall on me. I get really frustrated because my dad would break an anvil with a rubber mallet and it becomes my problem to fix. I can’t treat him like a child because he’s my father and I feel like it’s disrespectful, but sometimes it gets extremely frustrating. Especially since he rode my ### my whole life.

    I don’t know why I’m sharing all this. There is nothing that I can do except to continue to take care of him. And I know that time is limited. I do feel guilty for getting angry about trivial stuff, but the anger is only compounded because I know he knew better at one point. Just so you guys know I don’t show him my anger mainly because I think he knows that he used to know these things.

    My grandmother died from Alzheimer’s and it’s a horrific disease.

    Thanks for letting me vent. I do love him and I will continue to do whatever my parents need.

    I remember back in the 80’s when dad was driving. He fired the truck up when he left and didn’t shut it down until he returned. I did the same when I started driving in 2001. I try not to idle, but I refuse to be uncomfortable.

    One tried that with dad once on something he was going in for.

    The head surgeon over ruled her.

    Dad woke up just fine afterwards.
