Snoqualmie Pass recently recorded a record for snowfall.

Snoqualmie Pass breaks all-time record for snowiest day

I called a friend of mine today . He gets to play with explosives, either throwing charges out the open door of a helicopter or firing rounds from a recoilless cannon for avalanche control. They are running a LOT of over time at Snoqualmie, Stevens, and White passes.

Explosives and exhaustion aren't a good mix. He said there was a "near miss" a few days ago, didn't want to get into details. He begged off. Had to catch a few hours sleep.

Right now avalanche control is doing their best, but it's darned near impossible to keep up with the weight of the snowpack. They can release an avalanche and stabilize a slope, but have to come back and do it all over again within a couple of hours.

Anyone traveling through the Cascades in Washington or Oregon, or through the Blue Mountains, should have ample fuel and food.

    Nuff said.

That brings back memories. I watched a total solar eclipse around February 1979 just south of Ellinsburg, WA at the first rest area on I-84. It was spectacular. We could actually hear the infrasound of waves off the penumbra.

When the sun peaked out from behind the moon in a 360° rainbow covering half the sky, a hippie van with big speakers started playing this song. Truckers and civilians had stopped in place on I-84. A cheer went up as the song played.

    Mmmmmmm. Well I'm not convinced.

Everyone sing along with Cousin Tom.

    Song-Runnin Down A Dream
    Album-Tom Petty

"........the last 3 days, the rain was unstoppable. And it was always cold. No sunshine. "

    I'll post video later.
